Oh, mammatus!

Weird clouds over downtown Boston

Abigail Matzeder took a photo of the mammatus clouds over the Back Bay this evening. Dan Kissam took photos of the same clouds over Allston.

Channel 5 reported debris from Monson fell in Upton, 50 miles away. Stephanie Bradner reported from Dedham:

Debris was falling in Dedham MA from 6-630 PM - leaves, branches and other items falling from much higher than treetops.

Jenn Martinelli said, if nothing else, East Boston got an interesting sunset out of the storm:

Saw these formations near longwood and thought the sta puff marshmallow man would appear any minute

Looked out my window in Eastie and was completely freaked by these things. It looked like Steven Spielberg was handling effects for the afternoon. And yet...I could hear a plane circling and jets over at Logan -- couldn't tell if they were taking off, but I would hope not.

If I saw a movie that had clouds like the Squaw Valley ones in the Wikipedia article that Adam linked, I'd think the special effects guys were making stuff up.

Brian Kokernak looked up in the Financial District yesterday afternoon.

(and was promptly arrested for photographing the Fed Building)
