That'd be awfully shellfish: Legislature to consider elevating the quahog above all other bivalves

Every time one of these "Official State whatever" bills is mentioned, I get pissed. There's so much real legislative work that ends up shunted to the back burner, not to mention reams of actual important paperwork that could be read by the people voting. Why in hell do we need anything to be named "Official State thingamabob"?

(If "Official State Curmudgeon" is open, I gladly put my name in nomination. I'll clam up now.)

I can understand the idea of making a state "thing" to boost that particular industry. That said, I agree it is odd that they choose the quahog over the oyster.

a particular industry should be a management decision by the state tourism or industry development agency.

It shouldn't require an Act of the Legislature.

Look on the bright side - when the Great and General Court is considering the quahog, they aren't taking bribes, putting relatives into make-work jobs or driving drunk/molesting women.

By the way, did the Fluffernutter ever become the State Sandwich? I know there were hearing a couple of years ago.

Is there also a bill to change the Official State Name to Rhode Island?

You are assuming that the quahog industry is not slipping some dollars to the committee sponsoring the bill. ;)

Clam strips at Woodman's? My god, man.

Clam strips are for tourists. Whole fried clams with the bellies are soooo much better.

. . . years of Mass beach going - I'd say the scallop should get the honor. Seem to be the majority of shells on the beaches.

. . . or mussels maybe.
