Horrible decision on the part of Ch. 5! Are they going in the direction of Fox25? ...tabloid journalism, right-wing, hate-spewing, faux news. It would be a breath of fresh air to see professional and thought-provoking investigative reporting return to the local TV stations.
I'm no fan of McPhee. But why the local Fox bashing. (channel 25 news is very different than the FOX news channel) It's not that bad, and better than the other 10:00 alternative - the channel 7 scream at you sensationalism news. Hate spewing? Never seen that. faux news? Perhaps you haven't watched the other three networks lately - filled with feel-good non-news crap.
It's been years since any Boston station has had "professional and thought-provoking investigative reporting"
Channel 5's so-called investigative unit is laughable....which means McPhee will fit right in! the only difference she'll make is to make Chan 5 more likely to get sued for defamation of a character
Which tribe does she come from? How much Native American blood does she have? If she is a member of a family that has lived in the area for multiple generations she is a local.
The term "native" can have many different social and political connotations in different contexts. In some cases it is a neutral, descriptive term, for example, when stating that one is a native of a particular city or that a certain language is one's native language. However, in the context of colonialism—in particular, British colonialism—the term "natives", as applied to the inhabitants of colonies, assumed a disparaging and patronising sense, implying that the people concerned were incapable of taking care of themselves and in need of Europeans to administer their lives;[citation needed] therefore, these people resent the use of the term and consider it insulting, and at present English speakers usually avoid using it. This connotation has also led to controversy over the preference of the terms Native American or American Indians, though this controversy has resulted in either term being acceptable to most American Indians.[1]. And in the context of Nativism, in some periods a potent political force, "natives" are defined as a (predominantly white) group deserving of a special privileged position in comparison to immigrants.

Maybe you consider yourself a local. I consider myself a native, having been born here. I assume McPhee does, also.
In a related development, Channel Five has announced that the mid-day anchor position will be taken over by a bag of hammers, in order to provide Michelle with an intellectually appropriate counterpart.
With the hiring of that harridan, WCVB has now sunk to a new low in the annals of journalistic integrity. The station that proudly boasted such local stalwarts like Jack Hynes, Chet and Nat, and Jim Boyd is now joined by a woman who has a face made for radio and a voice that sounds like the by product of a mating between Baby Snooks and the Aflac duck.
I look forward to seeing her unique perspective on such newsworthy events as any woman who has killed a child, mailmen sleeping on the job and not a single derogatory report on any law enforcement or fire official, because to do so would obviously have a serious effect on Michele's love life.
What's next? Will WCVB now hire Jay Severin to be it's new editorial director?
ahhh - Jack Hines. I remember him doing an editorial when it was announce WLVI was being shut down that commented on the state of news broadcasting. Unfortunately that's not on youtube, but I did find some of Jack's commentary during the final news broadcast which was interesting to re-watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-zt5_gjurw

Oh, it's not all bad...
WBUR? WGBH? Can we count Universal Hub?
Oh wait, you mean on television. Sorry, can't help you, it's a vast, desolate wasteland there. People still watch it, you say? Egad.
this is a perfect fit

Michelle Mcphee
A voice that was meant for print journalism!

Ha! That voice is the stuff of nightmares
A thick Boston accent on a female ranks somewhere between a goiter and a dick on the unsexiness scale.
Well, well, well, my Michele

Truly the death knell of local news.

Karen Marinella
God I miss Karen Marinella. Where is she these days?
WLVI did always have that "family news" thing to it and presently, in a way WHDH's team has a great family feel as well.
