Rich foreign students charged with not giving a damn
By adamg on Fri, 08/26/2011 - 11:33am
Brian McGrory reports on the Talaat brothers, late of Cairo, whom residents of the Ritz-Carlton say are making their lives a living hell.
The Talaats, whose father is currently a guest of the Egyptian government due to a conviction for hiring a hit man to murder his mistress, are not the first foreigners to be charged with ruckus causing at the Ritz.

The revolution will not get room service
I'm guessing there was some pouting at L'Espalier when Mubarak was deposed. Now we have to deal with Cairo's old status quo.
If only we could stoke some kind of battle between the Egyptian layabouts and the Saudi layabouts. Maybe drop some layabouts from Tel Aviv into the mix?
You mean "Eurotrash"?
Ugh. We need a new name for them.
When did McGrory become Mr. Lifestyles of the Rich and Annoying?
Not that it's not sort of an interesting story, but it's not terribly important either. Egad- noisy neighbors!
And The Boston Globe, once again,
doesn't believe the general public is mature enough to post comments on a story. It's really irksome!
Must have been removed
It was up for most of the morning, but must've taken it down somewhere between 11:00 and 12:30. The comments that were posted pretty well confirmed their belief that the general public isn't mature enough to post comments.
The comments section of the Globe. . .
. . . is just darkly depressing. I hope their moderators have mental health coverage in their health plans.
Not to be pedantic
...but health plans are required to have mental health parity.
Why start now?
Why start now?
I did not . . .
. . . know that. Another little tidbit of info learned today.
I get it..rich Arabs are a pain in the ass..
you think they're the only assholes in that place? Trust me, professional decorum prohibits me from telling tales about some of the real assholes in that building.
OK, let's just say the worst is a guy who made millions helping screw college kids on their loans....
How high is the sense of entitlement is there?
It's SO high, a guy whose car was blocked in the North Tower driveway actually shouted at the valet, with no sense of self-awareness or irony, "Don't you know who I am?"
Whatever
Yawn. Have they stollen anyone's Porsche?
Punks
Simple case of a bunch of punks who think they are entitled to anything...
Someone help me out...
Which reality show is this one again?
Dirty Water?
I think it might be called something like that.
Err... why are they still here?
I assume they are here on a student visa, right? So... do we let people on student visa stick around after they assault a police officer? I assume it's making its way through the courts, but one would hope that would get you the bum rush out of country.
Oh... his dad is rich? well, alrighty then, I guess that's a-ok.
Why are they still here?
I have my ideas as to why they are still here. Apparently, if your daddy is rich enough, you can punch a police officer in the face and somehow not get charged with Assault and Battery, in this town.
Why only a slap on the wrist?
And whatever happened to the Saudis in the same building who giot into all sorts of similar trouble this past winter?
I'll bet they were allowed to stay here with just a slap on the wrist, also.
I'll bet somewhere in MA, some DA or judge just put on a new addition to his or her house, financed with Saudi/Egyptian payola.
I feel sorry for the other residents, some of whom might have had to, at some point, have worked hard to land a condo at the Ritz.
Assault and Battery, first offense
gets pretty much anybody a "slap on the wrist", I think. Especially if the victim isn't seriously injured.
You're making a lot of guesses there
Let's be a little more fact-based.
