Deck the halls with boughs of folly ...

Oh yeah, it's Veterans Day, so what better time for Oldies 103 to go all Christmas all the time?

way too early
There are still green leaves on many of the trees, and even a few hardy souls still trying to eat at outdoor tables (at Chipotle in Davis Square).
Thanksgiving Comes First
If anybody is truly sick of it - and I bet a few of you are - then please pop over to my place today, have a read, and act accordingly.

It does seem too early. But
It does seem too early. But then again Thanksgiving is only a week and a half away. I really don't care when they start it as long as it's there when I'm ready for it.
I can sacrifice the lack of Beach Boy music for a couple of weeks in exchange. Of course, that is an extreme exaggeration since I never turn on Oldies 103 unless it's to hear the Christmas music, and I bet a lot of folks are like me. And, well, who doesn't like to make two weeks of more revenue?
Same Old Same Old Oldies
At least they waited until the middle of November. They've been doing this for several years now, and given the increasing amount of "Christmas Creep" this year, I'm surprised that they haven't given in to the temptation to start November 1.
I read online about some radio station that has done just that, with the expectation of running nothing but Christmas music until JANUARY 2ND. Seems to me WODS goes back to regular programming a day or two after Christmas.
Christmas music after Christmas
doesn't seem that wrong to me, given that 'the Twelve Days of Christmas' end with Epiphany on January 6. The Christmas Revels at Sanders Theatre always have some shows between December 26 and 30.
What does Santa celebrate?
The story says Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand to declare it ‘all Christmas music all the time.’ Then we are told the official name for the "Christmas fest" is the "5th annual Holiday Music Marathon."
Aside from the Adam Sandler classic, how many Hanukkah songs are going to be played in the next 6 weeks? Will there be Ramadan tunes, or maybe a summer solstice chant, or perhaps some Mahashivratri jingles? Why can they bring Santa in but insist that this is a Holiday Music Marathon instead of a Christmas Music Marathon?
Bah, humbug, Oldies 103! A little truth in advertising, if you please.
Don't forget Diwali
The Hindu festival of lights. But I think it's already happened this year.
They could play Don McLean's 'Dreidel'
On second thought ...
Or they could play the original dreidel song, the one that the kidlet took a fancy to when she was in kindergarten, belting out, at the top of her lungs:
Over and over and over and over again.
On third thought ...
Chanukah song
I'd love to hear this on the radio.
Or this.
OK, that's my new bestest Chanukah song
Especially the Hip Hop Hoodios version, but maybe it's because I'm taken with the woman with the bagel bikini top - she's quite the lox, um, fox.
Oh, no, I'm caught in a Chanukah loop!
Hmm, maybe there is enough for All Chanukah, All the Time. ...
L'il Eminiem and the PS 22 Chorus sing Esa Enai in front of a Christmas tree (L'il Eminem comes in about two-thirds of the way in).
Klezmerish version of the Dreidel Song.
Melvin and the Chipmunks Chanukah (this one's even local).
Chanukah's da Bomb.
Homeboy Chanukah.
Hanukkah Homeboy.
We Are Lights.
What Do You Do with a Menorah? (by alien Muppets rejected from the touring company of "Grease," I think).
Happy Chanukah.
Worst cover of the Chanukah Song ever, by a woman with an ear infection.

Chanukah in Baghdad, 2006 - OK, not really a music video, but cool: Jewish soldiers in Baghdad do a video for a Miami temple that sent them Chanukah presents
Hey Adam...
There just HAS to be some way to work in
a bunch of Chinese food puns into this thread
right about now.
Nah
That just wouldn't be kosher (besides, I wouldn't want to shang-chai this thread).
My favorite Hanukkah song
Oy Vey, in a Manger!
One I Wouldn't Mind Hearing...
Is Tom Lehrer's "A Christmas Carol"
Christmas time is here, by golly,
Disapproval would be folly.
Deck the halls with hunks of holly,
Fill the cup and don't say when.
Kill the turkeys, ducks and chickens,
Mix the punch, drag out the Dickens.
Even though the prospect sickens,
Brother, here we go again.
On Christmas Day you can't get sore,
Your fellow man you must adore.
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and sixty-four.
Relations, sparing no expense, 'll
Send some useless old utensil,
Or a matching pen and pencil.
("Just the thing I need, how nice!")
It doesn't matter how sincere it is,
Nor how heart felt the spirit,
Sentiment will not endear it,
What's important is the price.
Hark, the Herald Tribune sings,
Advertising wondrous things.
God rest ye merry merchants,
May ye make the Yuletide pay.
Angels we have heard on high,
Tell us to go out and buy!
So, let the raucous sleigh bells jingle,
Hail our dear old friend Kris Kringle,
Driving his reindeer across the sky.
Don't stand underneath when they fly by.

Right on! Let's commercialize all of December's religious holidays!!!

Um, why would they play a summer solstice chant?

WROR as well
So no Bad Santa at 105.7:
My Letter From WROR
I wrote to them yesterday, to complain. Here is my letter, followed by their response.
MINE (edited for length):
I love Christmas music - after Thanksgiving. I love the fact that you play it all day and all night - after Thanksgiving. Before Thanksgiving, I don't want to hear it. I will not listen to your station, if you insist on playing Christmas music on November 12th.
THEIRS:
Hi,
Thanks for listening to 105.7 WROR and thanks for your comments about our programming.
Here at WROR, we find Christmas fun and worthy of celebrating. With Thanksgiving next week, we thought it we’d get into the spirit now. Led by Loren and Wally, we are all excited to celebrate the season by having some fun and playing Boston’s Favorite Christmas Songs. I’m sorry you don’t agree.
Hopefully, when the spirit touches you, you will join in the fun. Santa will be available to talk to your kids weeknights from 6 to 8.
I appreciate you taking the time to write. We will return to playing Boston’s Greatest Hits on December 26.

When the spirit touches you?
So some radio station featuring a couple of guys straight out of the 1980s (honestly, have Loren and Wally told a new joke since 1983?) is accusing you of not being a good Christian?
Ridiculous reporting
What makes me gag is "reporting" such as "In a live interview, Santa praised the station for its decision to play the holiday music..."
But this is explained by the note at the bottom: "WODS is owned by Infinity Broadcasting, a division of Viacom, which also owns this web site."
It's advertising in the guise of a news story. Unfortunately, this isn't unusual.
