Readville to postal service: Don't cancel our post office

Readville Post Office: Residents aren't licked yet.
Postal officials come to Hyde Park on Tuesday to explain their proposal to stamp out the Readville post office. The Readville and Camp Meigs neighborhood watches, however, are planning a little special delivery of their own: A large turnout to show that residents don't want to or can't travel all the way up to Cleary Square for their postal needs.
The session begins at 6 p.m. at the Hyde Park Community Center, 1179 River St.

I drive by the Readville USPS twice a day. Is the office round the corner on Hyde Park Av a customer office or not?

Of course, we HP residents got a mailing on that. It's a form query with benign looking questions — use it for biz/personal/both, what do you use it for, do you have a way to get to another PO, and a set to figure out if you could order or print your own postage.
It doesn't ask any meaningful personal-site ones, like how far you are from this one and the next nearest one or would going to the next nearest one create this or that kind of hardship.
By the bye, from my HP house, Cleary Square is a mile, the shortest route to Readville is 1.9 miles and from Readville to Cleary Square P.O. is 1.39 miles (all via mapmyride).

It's too bad kiosks haven't been better developed. I've seen a few useful "full-service" ones but never outside an actual post office.

. . . basically how I picture every small town post office in my mind. Classic.
Readville Post Office
It may be classic and small town, but the People who work in it are the exception to the norm in "government". They are friendly, informed and helpful. I oftem mail oversees packages,and they work with me to determine the best packing and shipping method available.
I refuse to go to any other post office if at all possible (they cannot do passports so alas I need to go to to the another post office for that).
If they're planning to shut
If they're planning to shut it down, they really should stop advertising PO boxes there.
They're not ready
That's not an actual decision yet. As the questionnaire we got from the USPS puts it, this stage is "a discontinuance feasibility study." I read that as how loudly will people scream.
Good Question (I Think)
The community center, where the meeting is being held, is a bit more than a mile from the Readville PO. If folks, for whatever reason, cannot go a mile to the Cleary Square PO, won't they likely not to be able to attend this meeting to determine the fate of the Readville PO?

Maybe the meeting could have been held at the Roosevelt School's lower campus, within walking distance of the post office, in the auditorium.
It's not the biggest auditorium, but it accommodates quite a few people during holiday assemblies and so forth.
It's not about distance, it's about keeping Readville PO, OPEN
Residents are not running the meeting. The USPS chose the date, the time, and the site of the meeting. Readville residents are willing to be heard, wherever, to keep their PO open, just as Boston residents did last year, to keep all the BPL branches, open that the Mayor wanted closed.
Your blog has you from Watertown, Suldog. What you don't realize, perhaps, is that The Readville post office is located on a major artery that links Readville to Hyde Park, Canton, Dedham, and Milton. Many people from these other towns use the Readville PO because of its location, but most importantly, because of the PO personnel who keep lines moving, know what they are doing, and exude excellent customer service, unlike other local post offices. It's worth the extra drive to go there. Hands down.
It's not that they can't go the mile, it's the difference in service from Cleary Square. I can mail the same card to HP from Cleary Square and it could take 2/3 days for delivery. I can mail the same card from Readville to HP, Stoneham, or Cape Cod, and it will arrive the very next day. That's why people want Readville to remain OPEN. It has nothing to do with mileage. It's all about the excellent USPS service at Readville. No one wants to lose it.
I think Suldog was merely criticizing the location
of the meeting. But if the USPS picked the spot, it kinda makes sense.
SAVE the READVILLE Post Office
For almost 70 years (since 1943) this Post Office and the dedicated Postal clerks and letter carriers have served this community and several neighboring towns. It stands in what is effectively an Historic District, next to a Fire Station from 1917, and a tiny church from the 1880s. In those days, Readville was a village where everyone knew one another and watched out for each other and for the safety and security of the neighborhood. We still do!
PLEASE COME TO THE MEETING AT THE HP MUNICIPAL BLDG - "THE MUNI" ON TUESDAY AT 6 PM. NEIGHBORS WILL BE OFFERING RIDES.

Readville is my closest post
Readville is my closest post office, and I go there regularly. That being said, the USPS is on the verge of a total collapse. The current workers will be lucky to ever see their full pensions. Any meeting held now is like doctors consulting over a corpse.
SAVE THE READVILLE POST OFFICE
If people want to keep this Post Office open, it is critical that they show up Tuesday night. The Postal Service has told us that attendance is critical and they will take note. Not only is the Readville Post Office good PR for the whole postal system, but it makes money for them after all expenses are met. Furthermore, it is essential that people mail back the questionnaire that was sent out. It is full of a lot of "loaded" questions. However, they are scanning the bar code to see how many people cared enough to respond. Perhaps, you might want to consider leaving some questions unanswered and write strongly worded comments instead.
You do not have to live in Readville/Hyde Park to attend this meeting. We have more than 30% of postal customers come on a regular basis from other communities. This is their Post Office of choice.

I HAVE LIVED ON CLIFFORD ST FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND THEIR IS NO BETTER POST OFFICE, OR THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THEIR THAT I HAVE BEEN IN, THEIR IS NOTHING BETTER THAN BEING ABLE TO WALK TO MY POST OFFICE GET MY STAMPS DO MY BUSINESS AND GET SMILES, GREAT SERIVCE AND A REAL NEIGHBORLY FEELING PLEASE PLEASE SAVE MY POST OFFICE.

Keep Readville Post Office Open
Readville needs to have a post office, many of our residents can't travel to another site. The people that work there are so helpful. I keep sending Christmas cards and all of my bills via post mail because I enjoy entering the post office. Email has destroyed neighbor relations and the post office is helping to keep it alive. The service there is great it is a very large part of our neighborhood.
