Train-loving East Boston teen missing again

Boston Police this morning are looking for Jeffrey Cooper, an autistic teen with a love of trains and the Boston Garden. Police are attempting to use a LoJack-like system that led to his safe return after he disappeared last September.

My mother had early onset

My mother had early onset dementia and was part of a program with the Norfolk County sheriff's office. It was a bracelet she wore every day with a gps type thing on it. As long as it was touched to a receiving box once a day, if my mother wandered off she would be tracked to the exact spot. It is a wonderful program. It would be good in this case as well.

GPS underground?

Unfortunately the GPS probably doesn't work if he's underground in a tunnel. Hopefully it would show up again if he's on a train that surfaces at some point.

SafetyNet by LoJack is Radio Frequency not GPS

I'm the Customer Care Specialist at SafetyNet and I wanted to let you know that we use Radio Frequency in our transmitters and not GPS. The GPS unit needs to be charged every couple of days. Our batteries last for a month. You only need to change the battery and strap once a month.

Also GPS needs a line of sight to the sky to work. If the GPS goes into a building (like a parking garage), into the subway or into a heavily wooded area, it will not be able to make a connection to the satellite in the sky and will fail to work.

Nothing obstructs Radio Frequency. Also our units are waterproof so you don't have to worry about bathing or swimming while wearing it.

Last year we had a successful rescue on the MBTA which was documented in both the Globe and the Herald.
