A Dorchester man pleaded guilty to trying to murder a romantic rival after a paternity test showed the victim had fathered a child with a woman he thought was mainly interested in him.
Kamal Oliver, 48, acknowledged in court last week that he shot the other man repeatedly after learning the results of the test in 2010, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports, adding the victim required six weeks in the hospital to recover from gunshot wounds to his neck, clavicle, chest, stomach, elbow and legs.
The evidence would have shown that Oliver showed up unannounced and uninvited at the victim’s home (on Lyndhurst Street) at about 9:00 on the night of the incident. The victim allowed him in and the two men spoke briefly, arguing for a short time but ending the conversation cordially.
Evidence would have shown that, as he was leaving, Oliver produced a handgun and began shooting the victim. The victim collapsed and Oliver stood over him, continuing to fire. The victim was shot six times before Oliver fled the scene without saying another word.
The DA's office adds a group of officers split up when they went to arrest Oliver - some knocked on the door and asked him to come out; the rest apprehended him when he ran out another door in his underwear.

The Maury Povich show came to Boston? Was Oliver paying child support or buying the Pampers prior to the shooting?
