No more favoring curry in Cleary Square
By adamg on Tue, 07/03/2012 - 5:50pm
The other day, I felt like some curry for lunch, so I headed down to Cleary Square in Hyde Park for some chicken from Konteki Kitchen. Gasp! In its place, all I found was some butcher paper and these signs promising some sort of vague "fusion" cuisine. What is this world coming to?

Their specialty is all
Their specialty is all cuisines. Reminds me of the Car Talk joke about the garage that specialized in repairing all makes of cars.
Was Konteki Kitchen...
.. that good? this new place should hopefully breathe some life into Cleary Square, I hope.
That good? I don't know, but I liked it
It was a pretty simple place: You went in, ordered some curry, the friendly owner with the great Jamaican accent dished it up for you, asked if you wanted fried plantains with that, you paid and you went home with a good, filling and inexpensive plate of Jamaican curry. Really, what more could you ask for? I'll miss it.
It's going to take a lot more than a new take-out place to breathe life into Cleary Square, though. And I wonder how much "fusion" they'll be able to do in what's really a very small space.
There's a shortage of food
There's a shortage of food options in these parts. Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, or Middle Eastern are all absent. I'd love some more variety.
If you moved to Hyde Park for
If you moved to Hyde Park for Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Middle Eastern food, you were, as a famous person once said, misinformed.
No, but
Every section of Boston has these. This had got to be the only division of Boston w/o them. Dedham, Roslindale and Westie ate close enough to drive to, but it would be nice to have some local delivery options.
There actually is Thai food in Hyde Park
Asian Thai Eatery on River Street (at West, I think). Not the world's longest Thai menu, but passable food, although if you're serious about Thai, you'll head up to Thai Central, i.e., Centre Street in West Roxbury, which now has three Thai places.
As for Vietnamese, Indian and Middle Eastern, um, yeah, you're right (although again West Roxbury comes through with the Vietnamese sandwich place on Centre and al Wadi on the VFW Parkway).
