Romney campaign again acting like it owns the streets around its Fortress of Solitude
By adamg on Fri, 07/13/2012 - 12:50pm
A roving UHub photographer annoyedly snapped this photo of a shredder truck illegally parked in a no-parking zone outside Mitt Romney's national headquarters (again), which is still inexplicably located on Commercial Street in the heart of one of the cities least likely to vote for him:
It parks there all the time despite constant media stories wondering what he's hiding & the fact that it's a TOW ZONE. Illegally parked despite half-empty parking lot which they assiduously guard.
Oh, yeah, gotta keep that parking lot free of little kids.

Typical
Liberals, Blame Romney for someone parking outside (illegally)his campaign office. But when Biden & Obama where in town and caused MASSIVE traffic jams and rang up $100k+ in police detail you all defend him. Typical
EVERY President causes
EVERY President causes turmoil in the cities and towns they visit whether performing public duties, campaigning and vacationing. George H.W. Bush made life very inconvenient around and about Kennebunkport, ME every summer. ('W' performed the charade of being a Texas rancher in a somewhat more remote village, but now lives in a gated compound in Dallas.)
Yes, but
He wasn't here on presidential duties last time. He was here for a campaign stop, and because of that, his campaign should reimburse the city for those details.

agreed, but at least Boston
agreed, but at least Boston has a decent budget to cushion the blow.... imagine how Wolfeboro, NH must be feeling this summer!
casting stone
This progressive agrees.
Why is that a liberal/conservative issue?
Romney also gets Secret Service protection on the taxpayer dime. But I'm not going to get into that cause it really isn't a political issue.
enough with the tribalism BS, mkay?
Politics for the Wealthy
That's right - presidents and candidates should only visit communities where taxpayers are wealthy enough to pay for politicians' protection. We should semi-privatize protection!
You funny, who writes your material, Debbie Wasserman Schultz?
"a somewhat more remote village"? That ranch was in the middle of nowhere, as Cindy Sheehan discovered. (Apparently Cindy's outrage doesn't extend to THIS administration's overseas adventures.)
Well, then I suppose
if Cindy Sheehan's son had been an unmanned drone, then maybe she might have a reason to protest Obama's wars.
so
those coffins coming home for the last three years had "drones" in them? Good to know.
Oh, so Obama started those wars! See where reading "Breitbart"
gets you?!!
I read DailyKos too
I just have a BS detector that has been working overtime lately. Good to know that book burners aren't all Southern bible bangers. YOU said Obama started the war, not me. Careful, in this hot, dry weather strawmen can go up in flames quickly. As Moynihan said, you are entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts.
Actually her outrage did keep going
Of course you didn't know that and so you are just willing to say her outrage didn't go on because it makes you feel better to call someone else a hypocrite. But, Mr. Moynihan, you're not entitled to your own facts.

Massive traffic jams in Boston?
How could you tell the difference?
Wow, didn't realize there was a straw sale at the feed store
Because that's quite the strawman you've got there. Or can you point to postings where people say they were pleased as punch to have their commutes shot to hell by motorcades passing over subway lines?
well...
Blaming Romney for doing something illegal vs. blaming Obama for doing something legal (albeit inconvenient)? Yeah, sorry, I'm going to back the guy NOT breaking the law on this one.
Seeing
as he told two separate government agencies two polar opposite things under penalty of perjury, you might have your wish.
so that truck is not just a company working for Romney?
Wow, he owns everything in the world! Brazilian landscapers! Wastepaper shredders! Plus he's really, really rich and I hate rich people! I'd be kind of careful about guilt by association here.

Quoting anything from a "Breitbart" site
proves you've already lost any argument you might have had.
there is a difference
between a messenger and a message. Just because you choose to ignore immutable, inconvenient facts doesn't eliminate them. A truth from Breitbart is as true as one from DailyKos, except to those who dislike truth. Show me one word of that post that is not fact. You can't. Deal with it.
Crystal Goblet
Presenting the contents of a port-a-potty in a crystal goblet doesn't make it into something other than the contents of a port-a-potty.
Similarly, linking to the racist/sexist/xenophobic cesspool that Bratbart has devolved into doesn't make it "facts" or "reason" or anything approximating it.
Yes, there is a difference.....usually
but we're now talking about the Breitbart sites. Founded by a drunken bigot, they are now run by his mewling sycophants Joel Pollak, Ben Shapiro and John Nolte. One has been and two never will be's whose only qualifications for the dissemination of what they believe to be political discussion is the fact that they picked up Andrew's dry cleaning and his kids from school.
The minute I saw Solyndra on that list, the only thing I could think of is the American troops killed by KBR in Iraq by faulty electrical wiring in the showers. KBR, a former subsidiary of Halliburton. You know, Dick Cheney's old company. A company whose stock rose through the roof once we entered two wars. No outrage over that? KBR, a company who still got a 35 million dollar contract from the DOD while under investigation for criminal misconduct.
Also, say what you want about Daily Kos, at least they didn't give the world James O'Keefe.
Heavy shredder
I hear there's lots of SEC documents they need to make disappear.
that must be where the tax
that must be where the tax returns are too
Romney should just jump off the Tobin already
Seriously, is he any good for any reason?
Yes,
when Obama whips his ass in November. Then he'll be good for a laugh until 2016, when he undoubtedly will run again. The man doesn't want to be president to help Americans, he's only running to suit his massive ego.
every time i think of Mitt
every time i think of Mitt Romney, my mind immediately goes to 'Parks and Recreation,' where Bobby Newport runs against Leslie just because he's bored and wants it, and then whines when he doesn't get his way.
At least
At least Bobby Newport had the decency to endorse his rival. It was a decent, stupid thing for the man to do.
Let me guess Will, you work a
Let me guess Will, you work a hack job that a cousin of yours got you. U pull the lever for anyone with a D next to his or her name because you are scared to death about being cut off and banished to the dreaded private sector. Why do all you liberals hate the fact that Romney became extremely successful? You cant stand it. If anyone should be jumping off the Tobin, it should be you.
You're talking out of your (expletive)
That, and/or you're illiterate and/or have not followed my comments.
-I work in the private sector
-I vote for the candidate I deem most worthy. I've voted for Scott Brown. I've also voted for Howard Dean.
-I am no liberal
-I can't stand Romney because he's a liar. That would be a problem for me if he were a Democrat.
To quote Jim Calhoun: "Get some facts and come back and see me."
Generic attack
Let me guess, troll: you cut and paste that paragraph anywhere someone speaks negatively of Romney?
Hilarious misfire. Anyone who reads this site knows Will better than that.
Return directly to Herald, do not pass HQ, do not collect $200.
you're projecting again
all due respect, anyone who voted for Howard Dean and says they are not a liberal is talking out of HIS azz. (And despite his Weymouth roots, quoting the sleazy Calhoun doesn't confer credibility. Joe Paterno was good with a quip too.)
Bubbles?
"I like bubbles?"
"Troll"
Probably the stupidest of all internet terms, it's use usually means to me a close mindedness towards people who have just as much right to give an opinion as anyone else.
Use of that term sometimes tells me that the person using it can be just as stupid as the person they're using it against.
Last I checked, our venerable webmaster hasn't put up a liberals only sign on the front page. I find it's a lot more fun to shred (what I usually perceive to be)a person's weak argument with liberal doses of snark, facts and logic.
Opinion?
The guy cut and paste an attack that had absolutely no relevancy to Will or the matter at hand.
Did you even read the thread?
Of course I read it.
Now kindly explain how the word "troll" applies here? How do you know that our incredibly misinformed friend here is under 3 feet tall?
Really?
You want to take a stand on the decades-old definition of "internet troll"?
No, I'm good
It's Saturday, I'm off, I'm stoned, the new APTBS CD is blasting in the background and I just felt like fucking with someone.
Is Menino backing Romney?
Menino would have his Meter Maids/Men ticket the Popemobile if it meant more money to squander for the city. So now we're to believe a truck belonging to a private shredding contractor that may or may not be working at Republican Mitt Romney's HQ gets a free pass? Um, OK.
At least we know Barack Obama pays his parking tickets. Who cares if they were paid 17 years late and only after announcing for President?
according to the boston parking clerk
commercial vehicles can legally park in no parking zones (the standard crossed out P sign) during regular working hours. I was told this at an appeals hearing, where I presented numerous pictures of un-ticketed commercial trucks on a block where I racked up half a dozen tickets. I figure this is especially true on commercial street. I also assume this is why many of these areas still have street cleaning signs posted.
What does this have to do with Romney?
I see these shredder trucks parking illegally everywhere.
I think
the irony might be lost on you that the Romney people told local residents who used to drop off their kids around here to go pound sand and that it was illegal parking/stopping.
Thus, using a service that has been illegal parking next to their campaign HQ becomes an issue.
tit for tat, no?
Still....
That was about a private parking lot, this is a public street where parents can and do park without a problem.
But yea, I think I get it.
Truck is illegally parked
I'm pretty sure parents can't leave their cars in tow zones for hours. Also how tone deaf do you have to be to have a giant shredder truck illegally parked outside your HQ when every story in the media is asking what you're hiding. Also there was a plane flying overhead today wondering where his tax returns are. Romney's whole operation is a joke.
let me get this straight:
If we ask for the transparency we were promised in 2008, along with the same personal info provided by his opponent,we are racists?
But because some nut-job hires an airplane to fly over Romney's downtown HQ, I'm supposed to believe this brave opponent of the vast right-wing media conspiracy? If anyone is trivializing the candidates, it's those who do things like hiring small planes with banners over Logan's airspace. Laughing at your own jokes is not cool, just sad.
Why is that a no stopping
Why is that a no stopping zone?
It would make the most sense to have the curb in front of an office building available for deliveries and service vehicles during the workday.
So many problems with stopping there and what is stopped there.
The truck taking up an entire traffic lane delegated for cars turning right onto the bridge. If you stop at the curb there, even in a small car, you are preventing anyone from turning right onto the bridge without them having to do a complete lane change around you.
The building has not only a parking lot but a loading dock off that parking lot.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=42.367404,-71...
Shredder trucks, like most other trucks, illegally run in idle rather than shutting off their engine after the five minute limit. One especially sees this in the early morning when delivery trucks start stacking up for early deliveries before businesses have personnel to receive such. Check out Comm Ave near Babcock at 6:00 AM sometime.
Shredder trucks when running the shredder are especially loud, exceeding 100 decibels easily.
The Romney campaign and his administrations have a long history of hiding information. Note current allegations about Bain Company employment. And recall past stories about how his administration took or destroyed hard drives and computer equipment on leaving the governor's office. Serious transparency issue.
But if they cited that truck ...
They would have to start citing the funeral home further up the street for their continual commandeering of the bike lane for a second lane of illegal "funeral only" double parking. Or, at least, be forced to take their @#$%%$*! signs out of it.
"If you stop at the curb
"If you stop at the curb there, even in a small car, you are preventing anyone from turning right onto the bridge without them having to do a complete lane change around you.
The building has not only a parking lot but a loading dock off that parking lot."
The curb lane begins at that building, since there's a neckdown for the crosswalk just before it. So anyone turning right has to merge into the right turn lane somewhere, either in front of the building, or just after it.
How often is traffic in the through lane or right turn lane actually backed up that far?
I don't think parking/loading should be banned in front of any building that has a parking lot or loading dock. Fast-moving traffic in curb lanes, and long right turn lanes, each make for pedestrian-unfriendly neighborhoods.
Idling and shredder noise are separate issues from the general issue of curbside loading. Has anyone made those complaints about this truck?
Reasons to dislike Romney
Some of the comments above look like Howie Carr's minions. "Dreaded Private Sector?" Spoon fed thinking at it's best! Romney isn't disliked because of his wealth. That's the garbage you get fed by the press. You know, if you don't worship anybody with a bulging bank account, you must be some sort of socialist pinko who hates work. Sorry, but what makes Romney repugnant is that he made his wealth by making other people poor and unemployed
. Same thing with Donald Trump who trumpets his love for America while his line of "fine clothing" is made in China. Romney put people out of work for profit. In other words, he took people out of gainful employment for his profit and the profit of a much smaller pool of people. Fewer people are working today, and those at the top are wealthier than ever. There is nothing in the way we structure our laws to protect people from profiteers and predators. There easily could be, and it isn't "socialist" thinking, it's patriotism. You want a strong America? You've got to have more than a small segment of society doing well.
you assume that all the money out there belongs to EVERYBODY
But calling socialism "patriotism" doesn't make it so.I care less about what Romney does with HIS money than what the government does with MY money. If he didn't run a hedge fund, nobody else would have done those same deals? That's absurd. For all I know, Soros might have gone into something other than currency speculation. Romney didn't make those people "poor and unemployed", capitalism did. That's like blaming your accountant for your tax bill. The accountant didn't write the tax laws, neither did Romney. Congress did. I find it funny that Al Gore and Bill Clinton have become wealthier than Romney based on their "public service" and nobody has a problem with it. But somehow working within the system BEFORE you run the country is somehow evil, like some kind of dyslexic conflict of interest. Take a look at who opposed insider trading legislation for Congress. (Cf. Pelosi, Reid). Romney doesn't enjoy a corner on the market for "creative destruction". Difference is that he got rich on HIS nickel, not while the government was paying him.
Yawn
Yawn
Where is the shadow government when you need one?
You
You must be really fun to walk away from at parties.
If only
we all had millionaire, politically connected fathers...
I think you mentioned it above, I would like to see Obama's school transcripts. Likewise Romney's.
Everything I've heard is that he was a B/C student, only marginally better than Bush, and his fathers power and influence got him into schools he could have never done so on his own merit.
Meanwhile Obama did it on his own with a barely middle class support of his single mother.
I'm not sure what concept of the American Dream you stand behind, but I sure know which one I do.
The guy with a lot of hard work and a good deal of luck that overcame his odds is the one I'm voting for. Not the one with a Batmobile elevator in his driveway.
(full disclosure, the more I read up on Romney Sr. the more likely I wish HE was the one running. He was actually Conservative, and someone to look up to. The apple fell pretty far from the tree.)
are you for real?
Romney got a Harvard JD and MBA SIMULTANEOUSLY because of "his father's power and influence"? Really?
Obama's time in prep school was the result of "hard work"? And that Occidental scholarship and free ride at Columbia was luck? Hey, the guy knew how to work the system. Good luck to him. But to hear this "Horatio Alger", up by his bootstraps bullshit is a bit much. He decided that the far left was where he would make his fortune and he appears to have been right; worked like a charm for him. But enough of the victimology. If anybody played the system like a Stradivarius, it was Barry Obama.
Obama's father, despite educational advantages unthinkable to his fellow Kenyans, was a drunken sociopath. We better hope the apple fell far from THAT tree. Between Clinton and Obama, I'm a bit weary of being collateral damage in the psychodrama of a single mother's boy proving his worth. A nuclear family that resulted in another nuclear family would be a nice, boring change.
Then what
are you doing supporting Romney, who's only goal in life seems to be to do anything and everything to reach the office his father just missed.
Blind ambition is dangerous, and as we see with Romney he will do and say anything to get to the presidency.
He's the ultimate example of a generational lack of accountability wrapped up into one toxic, snake oil salesman.
A man who claims that he is accountable for the successes at Bain, while in the same breath saying he is not responsible for any of the negative effects of Bain.
Sounds similar to Wallstreet elites who preach deregulation and cut throat capitalism, then run to the government for taxpayer handouts to socialize the losses they incurred.
Wrong again, my friend
Bill Clinton net worth- 80 million
Al Gore net worth- 100 million
Mitt Romney net worth- 250 million
Keep reading those Breitbart sites.
as I said, you're not entitled to your own facts
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/58770.html
Clinton's net worth equals just his speaking earnings? I think not. You worry more about the messenger than the message. and whether it is fact. Just his partnerships with Ron Burkle have made Clinton a bundle. Let me guess, when Romney was worth $80-100 mil, that was evil too, right?
(In my experience, people who use the phrase "my friend" don't have many of them.)
Tell me, my friend..
"Obama's father, despite educational advantages unthinkable to his fellow Kenyans, was a drunken sociopath. We better hope the apple fell far from THAT tree. Between Clinton and Obama, I'm a bit weary of being collateral damage in the psychodrama of a single mother's boy proving his worth. A nuclear family that resulted in another nuclear family would be a nice, boring change."
As opposed to the being the collateral damage in the psychodrama of a boy trying to prove himself to his father by going to war?
Kindly list for me where you obtained either your PhD or your M.D. degrees. I'd also like a link to where I can find any papers or dissertations you may have written. Also, I'm curious to get your scintillating insight into the mind of our previous CIC. While you're at it, I'd like to hear your thoughts on Bush also.
Also, where have I said that people that have money are evil? I make my living off of the one percent. My own brother is worth over $200 milli
