I totally remember being between 3 and 6 years old in the late '80s and my dad brining me to Mr. Donut on Main Street in Watertown on Sundays after church.... back when he still went to church.
that was my thought

though I don't remember a Mister Doughnut there--I thought there was one further up the street near Walter's Lock. I do remember the Kentucky Fried Chicken and the Brigham's. Ah...Charles Street...

Sure enough, Charles Street, with the Sevens next door. We own a panel painted by David Omar White from the ladies' room door of the Sevens.

I liked Mr. Donut far better than Dunkin Donuts. I wish it was still around.

The Dunkin Donuts back when Mister Donut was around was far superior to what's out there now, save for the fact that you'd occasionally get cigarette-smelling donuts.

That's the Seven's Ale House [77 Charles St, Boston] to the left of the Mister Donut shop.
That was too easy......
They are still using the same logotype in South Korea!

Two summers ago, I saw Mr. Donut giving out free samples along bustling Haeundae Beach in Busan. I think I ate at least three.

This photo is noteworthy not only for the "Ye Olde Mr Donut Shoppe" sign (aka "Suck it, Beacon Hill sign regulations"), but also for depicting that traffic on Charles Street used to run both ways.
It wasn't a two way street

Traffic didn't run both ways on Charles Street. But it used to run in the opposite direction of what it does now. Circa 1979 it suddenly and mysteriously changed direction (seemingly overnight) with no explaination.
Simple explanation.

Kevin White wanted to change it. I think Barney Frank told a story about how that happened.

Is "Mister Donut" still operating as a business entity? I saw a sticker on the register at my local Dunkies (High St in Medford Sq) that said something along the lines of "If your receipt isn't accurate, your order is free!", but it had "Mister Donut" branding all over it. And it looked brand new.
There was a Mr Donut

Dunkin Donuts acquired Mr. Donut a while ago. I think it would have been smart to retain the different stores even if they are part of the same company....but then again I also think they should still bake the pastries on the premises rather than trucking them in stale (what do I know?).
The Mr. Donut brand is licensed to do business in other countries (and why again not here?
Oh well, I"m not supposed to eat that stuff anyway.
