By adamg on Wed, 06/19/2013 - 11:54am
A forum on Thursday will give the dozen people running for mayor another shot at explaining their plans for education in Boston.
The forum starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Rabb Lecture Hall at the BPL main branch in Copley Square. Sponsors are EdVestors, Teach Plus, MassINC, the Boston Foundation and Massachusetts 2020.

Do you know if this is an open forum?
Open to the public, yes
Whether the public can pose questions, I don't know. Just asked in e-mail, will post the answer.
Not open mic
All the questions will come from the moderator (Michael Jonas of CommonWealth) and the sponsoring organizations.
Trying to figure out
why you have to give them your name, address, email and phone number if you want to attend.
Why is the Rabb Lecture Hall so devoid of art or ornament?...
Why is the Rabb Lecture Hall so devoid of art or ornament?... it's not a lecture hall that's welcoming.
Let's try something new
and judge the next Mayor harshly if the public schools do not improve during his/her first term.
LOL!
Keeping it real
The next mayor can do his or her part by who is appointed to the Board of Ed. The mayor can also stand up to unions that care about benefits but not results. But results are also up to parents. You can spend $10K , $20K or $30K per student and get the same dismal results if there is no will on the family's parts. The families stay up all night watching TV, playing X Box. No one is telling the kids to pick up a book, to study, to eat correctly or to pull up their pants when they go to school. Education is not valued among some people. Teachers can't be to blame for that, nor should administrators or even the mayor.
