Red Line service halted when woman overhears two guys talking about explosives, Logan

Train stopped and searched at Park Street this morning; no indication (in the story) if the MBTA actually found the two alleged guys in fatigues talking loudly enough about "explosives" at Central Square to get a nearby woman to say something or whether they activated the urban assault vehicle.

This just in from T spokesman Joe Pesaturo:

The witness believed the individuals made reference to narcotics and explosives and that they were headed to Logan International Airport. The witness stated that subjects were carrying a small backpack and bag.

Red Line service was briefly suspended while Transit Police searched subway cars at Park. Boston Police, Mass. State Police, and the FBI were advised of the incident and subjects' descriptions. A short time later (8:08 a.m.), both subjects were spotted as they got off the Silver Line at Logan Airport's Terminal B.

Transit and State Police interviewed both subjects and inspected their belongings. Both subjects were identified and cleared of malicious intent.

My train in Kendall just told us we were standing by for "schedule adjustments" which means just about as much as "root beer shoes."

I can just see those dudes at Logan getting surprised as hell.

"But Officer, we just said that Eric Clapton's 'Cocaine' was the bomb, yo!"

Dude 1. Can you believe how this whole Spitzer thing just blew up like that?

Dude 2. Yeah, but his wife sure is a heroine for standing with him like that.

Dude 1. You bet. Man, I hope the train gets here soon, I'd hate to get to Logan late again. You know how easily [boss's name] explodes if we don't meet him as soon as he gets in.

A lunatic/xenophobe hears (or thinks she/he hears things) and the all hell breaks loose? Give me a break. Like terrorists are going to be "talking loudly enough about 'explosives'" anywhere.

If you see something, say something. I suppose the same applies to if you hear something.

We have no idea in what context they were talking about explosives and narcotics. No mention is made of threats. We have no idea what the reliability of the woman who called in the tip was. We know that they weren't with charged with anything, but the Voice of the MBTA praised her anyway.

Such incidents help to keep people feeling scared, and that's their only point. Scared people don't complain.

Did they interview the woman? Detain her and subject her to search? Wait, that would discourage the sheeple from buying into this whole atmosphere of fear that's worked so well in wasting millions of dollars on the security theatre ongoing in this nation.
