If you're looking to donate to the ARL, beware to donate only to their official pages--the FB page linked above is not one of them. They posted earlier this evening:
See https://www.facebook.com/AnimalRescueLeagueofBoston for more details.
Good point, but the second link is an ARL page

Thank you for posting this. I actually was going to write the ARL and send a check. I don't have much to give but want to contribute. Didn't know other people were thinking the same thing.

Meanwhile the Globe's coverage has been lackluster.
It's neither correct to sensationalize it nor to minimalize it.

I'd punish this person myself for free.
Agreed!

Although I think it was multiple persons.
Something tells me this was gang related. The dog found in a park, versus a residence, suffering multiple forms of abuse.
My investigation would start with Quincy High School. A list of drop outs might help!
I own a former bait dog myself

When I look at her sitting on the couch with her head in my lap, safe at last from the torture, then you know why I would punish this person for free. All you have to do is look at her filed down teeth and the large slices in her ears and the scars on her face and all you can do is marvel at the fact that she still has the capacity to love any human at all.

Say what you will about pit bulls (and people always have something to say) but the most "vicious" pit bull on earth wouldn't sit around thinking of cool new ways to torture another dog. Nope--it takes a human to do that. I really hope they find this sick POS. And I'm glad that this poor dog spent the last hours of her life in gentle, caring human hands--hopefully it made her suffer a little less.
This really rips me up

I imagine the poor dog thinking, "What am I doing wrong? Why are they torturing me? If only I were a better dog maybe this wouldn't be happening." R.I.P.
So much this

My rescue dog is a pitty mix and she has the classic sad pibble face whenever she doesn't understand something. When she misbehaves and I correct her in a stern tone she just stares at me with those worried eyes trying desperately to figure out how to make me happy again. I can't imagine looking into that face and hurting her. Ugh, just the thought makes me feel sick.
Puppy Doe must have been in a constant state of fear

I have a cat who had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor a couple of weeks ago. Two days later she had to go back to the vet for a day of IV and sub q liquids because she wasn't eating or drinking. A week after that she went back to the vet to have her sutures removed. This all completely and absolutely sucked for her but she's cancer free now.
I like to give her one last little pat on the head before I leave for work in the morning and since this happened, she has a look of terror in her eyes when I come near her to give her that little goodbye pet. She bolts into the bedroom and under my bed. She also bolts when I open the closet when I open the door of the closet where I keep her carrier.
If my cat's relatively minor inconvenience has left her with so much fear, how much suffering and terror did Puppy Doe experience every day of her existence? I just do not understand. I don't.
It's so heartbreaking :-((

I donated to the ARL fund. Doesn't make the hurt go away but had to do something.
Excellent idea

I just did the same. I'm a regular ARL donor but your note reminded me that I could actually *do* somehting, so I sent them a few extra dollars.

To those that are signing the petition to ban pet ads on CL; Where is the PROOF that the perps of this cruel and heinous act got "Kiya" through an ad on CL? They could have found her on the side of the road, been a "gift", through an ad on Pet Finders or the Herald. Many animals are just dumped on the street, many have found their forever homes through ads on CL. It is the owners responsibility to find and ensure a proper home for the Animal they are getting rid of and not CL, Pet Finders or any newspapers, they just LIST. If you are too lazy to do any checking on a potential home for your "Beloved" pet, then go through a reputable Rescue group, give a donation and let them find a proper home for the Animal. But, don't blame a newspaper ad for YOUR failures.
