What happened to the food court at the Burlington Mall?
By adamg on Wed, 03/19/2008 - 8:20pm
DJDiva reports from what sounds like the aftermath of a food war:
... Where did all the 'restaurants' go? The whole thing is boarded up shops. It looks like a mall 4 days before it closes forever over there. My hope is that they are trying to clean it up, put in some healthy options (bring back fresh city!) and make it look better for the launch of the new Nordstrom wing. ...
With bonus rantage about the Macy's and other stores there (but with kind words for the Mac stores and Legal Seafood).

Mall = Fine
That post is kind of stupid. By no acceptable mall-judging logic is Burlington anything but a "good mall," with a wide roster of middle-upper tier stores. Sure, I like the vintage stuff... conversation pits, fountains, orange julius--but most people don't. There's nothing wrong with Burlington.
The food court vacancies are the result of an overall restructure at the mall to bring even more upscale stuff; The Boston freakin Globe even wrote about it awhile ago (McGrory, even!) because they tried to evict Pizzeria Regina, but McGrory's column kept them in place. One of his greatest contributions to greater Boston ever...
Busy Like Christmas
We were there over the weekend and were stunned to see every last nook and cranny of the mall parking lot filled to capacity like it was the last weekend before Christmas. Recession? Depression? Not at the Burlington Mall!

Christmas? Yes, sort of
A movie is about to start filming there, which requires hanging Christmas decorations everywhere:
Plans for movie, new wing have mall buzzing
Looks like lots of new stores are opening this month, not just Nordstrom.
(A few weeks ago, Christmas decorations were also hanging on the old Filene's downtown, for some other movie shoot.)
There are 7 open shops in
There are 7 open shops in the food court, so it's really not that bad. And signs announcing 2 more places coming soon, leaving 4 or 5 empty slots, but not so bad.
