Man grazed, car struck by hail of bullets in Roxbury

Around 8:30 p.m., somebody unleashed a barrage of gunfire on Munroe Street, near Walnut.

Police found one victim with a graze wound to his leg, a car hit by a bullet and numerous shell casings littering the street. A possible suspect was apprehended after a short foot chase down Elmore and Mayfair streets.

UPDATE: Boston Police report three undercover officers headed toward the shooting site got into a car crash at Ashmont Street and Dorchester Avenue, sending them and the two people in the other car to the hospital. The department says the undercover car was hit by the other vehicle.

Your snide comments aside, three cops racing toward the gunfire were injured at Dorchester Avenue & Ashmont Street when their cruiser was hit while they responded to the call. $200,000? Only for the politically connected, Menino appointed brass, like Lowell's Ed Davis who now laments the raise for actual Boston patrolmen, haha!.

But it was a zig zag 3.5 miles away. A life-time in terms of catching someone in the city. Everyone who lives and works in Dorchester, I presume, knows that is a bad intersection despite the new "Peabody Square" re-design. Add in the aggressive way people drive in this city, both the cops and civilians, it is no wonder there was an accident.

And in a quick random scan of the BPD police officer payroll of 2012 the salaries that showed up were: $141, $123, $131, $110, $168, $176, $116, $96 & $94. With most base salaries were a good $20,000 below their final pay. That extra $20,000 had to come from somewhere.

Both sides have valid points.

Interesting that they were responding to a shooting on Munroe Street in Roxbury. Last night's "Boston's Finest" was all about the cops responding to shootings in that exact neighborhood cuz of a beef between Munroe Street and another gang over the summer.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports on the arraignment of Hasan Sharif Davis, 22, in Roxbury District Court today: Bail set at $30,000 on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm as a second offense, carrying a loaded firearm as a second offense, unlawful possession of ammunition, trespassing and receiving stolen property. However, he's not going anywhere: The judge in his case revoked his bail on an earlier A&B charge

Davis spent 18 months in jail following a 2009 conviction for carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, the DA's office says, adding this account:

Pierce told the court that members of the Boston Police Department were on a routine patrol in the area of Walnut and Townsend streets at approximately 8:30 p.m. yesterday when they heard multiple gunshots. The officers then spotted a man, later identified as Davis, running from Munroe Street.

Davis led police on a foot chase through an Elmore Street backyard before he kicked open a stockade fence leading onto Mayfair Street. Police heard a metallic object hit the ground as Davis exited the fenced area and ran back onto Elmore Street, prosecutors said.

Police continued to pursue Davis to the area of the Shelbourne Recreation Center on Washington Street, where he stopped running and finally complied with officers’ commands.

Officers recovered a Taurus 9mm semiautomatic firearm from the fenced area, prosecutors said. The gun was cocked and loaded with a single live round. Police later determined that it had been reported stolen in North Carolina.

At least according to BPD, which says:

At about 8:30 PM, Wednesday, December 4, 2013, undercover officers from the YVSF activated lights and sirens responded to a radio call for Shots Fired in the area of Elmore St. and Munroe St., Roxbury.

The department motor vehicle, with three undercover officers, was struck by a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Ashmont Street and Dorchester Avenue. All three officers and two civilians were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
