Driver takes out traffic light at Brighton intersection

Nick Tomkavage reports a driver, who may have been doing 60, slammed into three light posts at Commonwealth and Chestnut Hill avenues around 9 p.m. Traffic became a mess; the B Line had to slow at the impact site.

We need to license, register, and insure them so they don't go around killing and injuring people, driving into storefronts, taking out transformers, knocking down traffic lights...

You can be a dick who does 60
You can be a dick who does 60 and hits light poles but also have the ability to pass a drivers test. It's not hard to pretend to be a good driver for a few minutes especially in the USA which seems to be the easiest place to get a license in the world based on the retarded mistakes people make.

The real test of our licensing system will be the suspension or revocation of this person's license.
Not the USA - mostly the Northeast
Drivers licenses are state based and many states have comprehensive examinations that involve 40-60 exam questions and an hour-long gauntlet with an examiner. MA and NY and CT have laughable driver training and performance requirements compared to states like California. Neither the written exam or the driving test are comprehensive tests of abilities, skills, and knowledge across multiple competencies and it really shows. My teens are starting to learn and I'm finding comprehensive tests on the web to make them pass before I'll let them take the MA "test".
The other problem is that you really have to work hard at your bad driving to even get a ticket around here.
The third is that, even when a physician, the local cops, and family agree that somebody is not able to drive, there is no mechanism to get them off of the road or make them retake the exams.
