Reasonable reaction

I think "OH MY GOD! WHAT THE F****!" is an entirely reasonable reaction to what was going on outside that door.
I might have been even more colorful.

There was many a high hair messed up in all that wind but fear not, there's 72 salons in a 1/4 mile radius.
Oh and one upside down car apparently.

The second video clearly showed a smash and grab in the middle of all the blown around pallets.

You mean the smashed car window? That could have been from a tree limb.

But this is Revere. If you look closely you can also see the tree limb stole the radio as well.
Yeah, right

Mon, 07/28/2014 - 12:02pm
I saw the smashed window - but you realize that it is a lot more difficult to steal "radios" than it used to be, right?
Imagine how much harder it is

Imagine how much harder it is if you're a tree.

I need to look at this again. I don't even think the video showed the inside of the car.

Yes.

It was my first instinct. Good call. My second one was a JOKE about a smash and grab. OH the HUMANITY. whatever.
Poor women. Breaking my heart. I made fun of high hair awwwwwww.
I'm putting myself in the corner.
ok I'm back.

Is Jackie's Packie all right?
Did she open a second store?
By SwirlyGrrl
Mon, 07/28/2014 - 12:16pm
I thought her store was in South Boston?
"Jackie's Packy Too! Now selling Ciggies and Beer on Rt. 69 in Revere!"
It's not far

Route 34 and 69 intersect in what town again?
Nah, I think Jackie was one
By Hyde_Parker
Mon, 07/28/2014 - 3:27pm
Nah, I think Jackie was one of the lucky ones to hit it big and made it out of the neighborhood. Out of the neighborhood all the way to Re-vee-ah, or Saugus. Pick one.

That's the Ethnic Settlement Patterns
By Chris Rich
Mon, 07/28/2014 - 4:35pm
for Dummeeze version.
They are fairly fascinating with lots of contrarians. My Celt great Grandma's sister Margaret married Nick, a southern Euro who couldn't read nor write.
So Margaret handled the paperwork and turned her new married name into "Mitcheroney" confusing other Italians to no end. They lived in the Celt Belt in Canton.
The real spelling was probably something like Micciaroni or some such but the lilting curling word song shapes of Italian were mysteries to Margaret.
Southie had, maybe still has, an Albanian Church with a Plainsong Choir that went extinct in Albania but persisted here.
And now we have whole new settlement patterns of Asian immigrants, various southern Slavs in a number of places, ashrams in Ashland and so on. East and West Africans find their way. Haitians figure it out and on and on.
It is part of the underlying charm and beauty that redeems the place from its lapses into mindless bigotry and petty turf squabbles.
My inlaws were married there

Some of those traditions were repatriated after the fall of communism and end of Hoxha, all due to their being kept alive in the US.

I'm glad to know it seeded something, almost the opposite of the Ann Frank Tree problem.
The Commonwealth Arts Council thing. (it has some new Mittins era name) had a state folklorist on staff. (Now it seems to have been redirected to blow lots of art money on buildings instead of artists as if the building trades aren't eating enough.)
It was a requirement when state arts councils were mandated by the creation of the NEA.
I was friends with some avid amateur ethnographers from BU who alerted me to all this in the mid 80s and I'd end up briefing each new folklorist on the lay of the land.. the Carpathian Fiddlers around Clinton, the Abenaki powows on old reservation land in the Lowell Dracut forest and so on.
I basically spend my life immersed in all these natural, ethnographic, and historic elements out there under my nose as my substitute for keeping track of corporate media circuses.
Mitcheroney?

The old days had lots of these match ups based on shared Catholicism.
Margaret was an Irish woman using phonetic English of sorts with a residual Gaelic sensibility
And the role of the man to be a dumb mule while the woman figured out the paperwork was fairly common. These people were born in the 1880s and their parents fled old world misery to catch shit for caring about the Pope.
In many ways it is pretty similar to immigrant horseshit squabbles now, same accusations, same muttered suspicions, etc.

Man I heard Peter Woo's building is destroyed (from a ex coworker who lives in Revere). That was some awesome chinese food. :(
Worried my house, specifically my bedroom has water in it. I put the window fan in before I left. ugh.
Glad to hear of no serious injuries tho.

No, not "everyone"
By Jeff F

Not even most.
The vast majority of folks are decent, which is why stuff like the above makes us feel bad. If everyone was like this, saying "Some people are stealing" would have as much emotional impact as saying "People are breathing".

Not opinion. Statistically verifiable fact
By Bob Leponge
Mon, 07/28/2014 - 5:53pm
The overwhelming majority of people do not lie, cheat, or steal. That's not a subjective opinion, it's a vact trivially verifiable by looking at crime statistics.
