That's one of the upsides of getting older. I remember reading the Phoenix' back to school guide when I was in high school, with this being a highlight (along with "let them off before you try to get on"). I just had my 25th reunion this spring!

Passholes - passive aggressive assholes. People who apologize for not letting you off the train or bus while simultaneously continuing to board. Passholes.
May I add some additional definitions to that word?

- If you're sitting in an inside seat on a bus or a train, a Passhole will not step down to let you out...they'll swivel as if it were an office chair.
- If you see an empty seat, a Passhole will take it with the same relish as Ricky Henderson stole bases - and look you dead in the eye afterwards. (I call it the "Ricky Henderson" maneuver.)
- If you're in a rush to catch a train or bus, a Passhole will make sure to impede you. It doesn't matter if they slow down or they zig-zag all over the platform - Passholes have only one objective, and that's to make sure you don't get anywhere easily.
- If you need to get out for your stop, a Passhole will fiddle with their iPhone, talk even louder, or do other things to aggravate you because you're inconveniencing their self-absorbed "me, me, me" time.
I have another word for that.

It's that time again where kids go back to school. Trains don't run as efficiently as they did in the summer. Crowds after crowds on the platforms. Waiting for the next train after it was fully packed. Train is already full and we're cramming in more people with trains following close behind.

Come from low density suburban sprawl. They simply aren't used to a high population density urbanized big city. I'm not mocking anyone, and not saying one is better than the other, just simple human observation. Most don't even realize they are being rude, they've simply never been acclimated and socialized to live in a large heavily urbanized city.
People from the inner metro region of NYC (northern NJ, etc.) or from the Boston area should know better.
