Grizzled political observer moving south
By adamg on Wed, 09/17/2014 - 9:31pm
David Bernstein, formerly of the Phoenix and currently of Boston Magazine, reports:
Big personal news to relate: after the November election I am moving to Richmond, VA, where my wife is starting an exciting new job.
I expect to still write and comment about Massachusetts politics beyond 2014, and am pleased to say that Boston Magazine and WGBH have expressed interest in finding continuing roles for me.

Abandon ship...
Whether they head North or South, anyone with a brain is getting the hell out of Massachusetts.
All actual statistics and
All actual statistics and facts point otherwise.
No
um, no, they don't...
Housing prices
Everyone moving away must explain why the housing prices are crashing. Oh wait...
Nobody lives there anymore...
Nobody lives there anymore... it's too crowded.
Disclaimer: I HAVE NO AGENDA
and am a political independent.
Massachusetts economy is doing very well compared to much of the country.
Massachusetts NEVER loses population. Every census shows a population gain, mostly in eastern MA, Greater Boston.
MA ranks smack in the middle of the pack as far as taxes. There are multiple, well known 'business friendly' states that fare worse, some much worse, than MA, as far as taxes. Then there's our neighbor NY, which is a certifiable basket case.
MA ranks smack in the middle as far as crime rates. I lived in other regions of the US, trust me: New England region, even southern N.E., is a virtual paradise compared to other states and regions if the country as far as violent crime. If you think Boston, or MA, is 'bad' you haven't experienced real 'bad'.
None of this is to say MA or even New England doesn't hsve problems and issues. Every place does.
If MA never loses population
If MA never loses population then why have the number of U.S. House reps gone down?
Because ...
Other states are growing faster.
You just got
MATH'D!
Yeah, sucks here, amirite?

Good riddance.
Good riddance.
I miss Pope Cat.

Best of luck, David!
I have enjoyed your contributions and insights for years, and will miss them!
Poor bastard
What's a politically-minded reporter/editor going to do to find a job in Virginia of all places?
McDonnells
Well, the McDonnell case was more interesting than our run of the mill Speaker of the House corruption for starters...

There's also a city known for its political issues on the northern border somewhere too, I think.
Pssssst..... Adam
It's spelled "Phoenix."
Southerners??
Learned this way about Kristin's new job. (CVB?) wow you two in the state that dumped Cantor for someone farther right. Can't wait to hear/read more.
