Man with violent record charged with murdering teen outside South End party
Johnnie Bonnie, 22, of Jamaica Plain, was indicted on first-degree murder charges on Friday for the death this summer of Evens Archer, 17, after a party on Castle Court in the South End, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
Archer, a Dorchester resident, was shot in the back of the head shortly before 2 a.m. on June 29. He died three weeks later. After shooting Archer, prosecutors say, Bonnie ran away down Shawmut Avenue, tossing his gun in the process.
Police did not have to search hard for Bonnie after his indictment - he was already being held in lieu of $15,000 bail for illegal possession of a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver following gunfire outside the Ashmont T stop on Sept. 20. The DA's office says the gun he was caught with then is not the one used to kill Archer.
At the time of that arrest, Bonnie was out on bail for a May incident involving a stolen Randolph school van that ended with him and seven other people allegedly running through Roslindale Square before being captured.
And at the time of that arrest, he was on probation for a 2011 stabbing on Tremont Street along the Common, after finishing up a 2 1/2-year jail sentence for his role in the attack.
A date for Bonnie's arraignment on the murder charges has yet to be set, the DA's office reports.

hmmm
2 Shootings, a stabbing & a car theft. And these are just the ones we know about, and don't (likely) include his juvenile record.
Throw the book at him! Release on own recognizance until his trial in 2016, then if convicted, he's likely to get 3 years at least!
Innocent, etc. Right?
to clarify
To clarify a bit, I really, sincerely believe in "Innocent until proven guilty", and I'm glad Adam mentions it in his stories, to remind us all.
But that said, I have a hard time with two things:
First, it's hard to say it with a straight face when the guy has been arrested for so many serous crimes.
And second, it's frustrating that he's let out on bail or probation each time, even given his record in the case of this specific thug.
Really?
