South Boston Traditions continue
Got to hand it to South Bostonians, they carry on their favorite traditions forever and have a good time doing it. God Bless them..
Plenty of Newcomers Taking That Swim
I somehow don't think you'd be so warm and fuzzy about the growth of the Santa Speedo Run, but some of those same folks have also been jumping in at L-street in recent years.
I know a number of people from my community who crash the party, too.
They are not newcomers
They are referred to as newbies. And most of the people who participated are not newbies or yuppies from Southie, but just plain old people who live outside of Southie.
Agreed! With so much negative
Agreed! With so much negative posting about Southie residents, it's nice to something positive for a change.
In Agreement!
I also agree with the comment about the South Boston bashing that occurs on this page from time-to-time.
As a very long time resident I see this place has changed. For better or worse, depending on what I see.
There are still enough of us out there who actually enjoy things like this. It's not hard to figure out that this event, like most of the public events in South Boston, have attendees who overwhelmingly live somewhere else. It's just the way it is.
As far as disliking or feeling uncomfortable; not me.
One thing: How does one 'crash' an open, public event? It's sort of like bringing your own booze to an open bar.
My Scottish/Irish Blood
If I ever have to go into battle, bagpipers playing will get me primed and ready.
I have NEVER had even the tiniest desire to plunge myself into cold water on New Years Day, but listening to those pipes I felt like jumping into the middle of that throng and leading a charge onto the beach in just a kilt with my face painted blue.
