From Manny's silly plate appearance to the alleged bats at the bottom of the order, Red grew frustrated last night - all the more so because watching the game meant several hours of ESPN announcers:
... [A] loss after you've had to endure four hours of Joe Morgan and Jon Miller is like a form of torture. Why can't ESPN offer alternate audio tracks, kinda like a DVD, enabling viewers to choose from either the actual commentating or something a little less aurally offensive, like squealing breaks, an iron glove on a chalkboard, or Stephen Hawking reading all the Frank Booth dialogue from Blue Velvet?

not just baseball
Television broadcasts do have two channels for audio and the viewer can select the one they want (SAP). Whether it's Joe Morgan and Jon Miller, or any other of the hundreds of sportscasters who think they are going to make the event exciting by hyping it up or putting on their show, we need a choice. How about broadcasting the the crown noise only on SAP and letting us enjoy the program?

My TV is too outdated to receive SAP. What's on this audio channel for NESN and ESPN?

I remember buying a tv in 1985 that had a SAP button and playing around with it. Is your TV older than that?
Old TV, no SAP
It's a Philips-Magnavox that I bought used from a neighbor, so I don't know how old it is. The owner's manual has a 1999 copyright, and doesn't mention SAP anywhere.
The TV does claim to receive both "CC-1" and "CC-2" closed captions, but I've never actually seen a "CC-2" caption. Do they actually exist?
