They had a reporter talking about all our issues: Snow, collapsing roofs, killer icicles and, of course, the T. The reporter breathlessly declared one Red Line station was so bad "the bathrooms don't even work!"
Wait, Red Line stations have bathrooms?

Harvard, Porter, and Davis definitely have bathrooms. Ashmont has one that they'll let you use in an emergency (or, rather, let a child use).
Harvard and Porter have bathrooms before you go through the gates. Davis's bathroom is after you go through the gate.

I'd be happy if they put a charlie card gate on the restrooms and charged people a normal fare to use them in exchange for keeping them functioning and somewhat clean.

This "squat over the toilet" habit is why women's bathrooms have piss sprayed all over the toilet seats. This is a dirty, disgusting, selfish practice. SIT on the seat and piss IN the bowl. If you don't want to sit on the seat, then go piss in the nearest snowbank, or hold it until you get home. Don't spray your urine all over the damn bathroom. Pigs.

Oh Please, I have gone into a restroom in a plane, after a man has used it and I had to clean the seat before I could sit down. I hate the practice of hoovering over the seat. It is foolish and un-necessary. Put paper on the seat. Wipe the seat off afterwards. Pee is clean when it leaves the body!!! Wipe it up!! Wash your hands., for gods sake. Then never touch the door handle, never. Use a paper towel. Use the hem of your skirt or coat, but never touch that handle. It is the most germ infected place in the bathroom. Because people don't wash their hands.

DO THIS AND YOU WILL GO TO HELL!
Seriously - can we get more "I'm too special so I'm going to spray the seat with MY special piss"? Bring your own hand sanitizer or a packet of germicidal wipes and pregame if you must be germaphobic.
I totally loved it when the flight attendants on a flight I was on decided to humiliate some piece of work like you, describing exactly what she needed to clean up and her seat number.
BTW ... there is very little that you can catch from a toilet seat unless you have been digging at the skin on your ass until it bleeds. Even then, skin works.

Yes, Forest Hills station has a bathroom, I found it yesterday morning! It's a secret bathroom, unmarked, but I was motivated. We'd been out in 10 degree cold for two hours trying to get out of Hyde Park. We waited for the Fairmount train (ha!) and after there was no communication via text alerts, the ticker, or the web site, we trudged with other lost souls across Hyde Park, in the street at rush hour, to Cleary Square in hopes of a Stoughton train. To no avail. The trains passed and white washed the miserable hoards. Finally a train slowed down and the conductor leaned out an yelled at us, "The train is FULL! But another is coming in 40 minutes!" That's when I told my companion, fighting back tears, I'm freezing, I have to go home. But as we were walking home ... a 32 bus, going to Forest Hills station! We jumped on. When we got to Forest Hills, we had already been wandering around for two hours, and I still had to get to Harvard Sq. to go to work. But I needed a bathroom -- and I was sure there was none, but there it was, a well kept, germy secret that I have never been so happy to discover.
Because it took me another hour to get to work.

Ditto for Alewife. I only had to use it once during a snow event in early 1996 when I was heavily pregnant (and it took the bus an hour from Arlington Heights).
Pretty grim, but better than nothing.
The T didn't want to have to deal with public restrooms, and I forget what it was that forced them to open a bunch of them to the public. Most recent stations were designed with them.

Made it back only a couple of minutes late and got back on schedule in no time. Didn't notice where he went -- must be facilities at Park Street Station? He didn't have time to run to the Corner Mall :-)

Just speaking for the ones on the Red Line, it's 50/50 if they are operational during normal times. If it is operational, don't count on paper towels or soap.
This is one thing I'll point to as a managerial problem. How hard is it to have operational restrooms, stocked and clean? Can it really be so cost prohibitive that is just can't be done?

The first time I used it, there was some dude in the toilet stall riding out his drug high. However, my visit to the room was "important" and I was only doing number 1 anyway. I took care of my business and got out. I've used that room several times since then and I've been the only user at the time. It's not terribly clean and in bad shape but it gets the job done.
On the other hand, the Men's room at the Au Bon Pain in the Prudential Center is nice and clean and twice I've come in to find IV drug users shooting up in there.

Late to the party, but I don't think the T really even maintains the "staff" bathrooms. Many years back, I had a grand night at Charley's on Newbury (before it went to hell and closed), not knowing that the Red Line imploded, delaying the last trains out of Park Street. In desperation, after an hour wait, I pleaded with the attendant to let me run out to my office and be let back in before she locked the doors. She kindly offered me the staff bathroom, instead.
It was like the sixth level of hell in there ... but I always waved to her after that night. It was a nice gesture.

By BostonUrbEx

The list of stations which don't have bathrooms (sans Green Line surface stops) would be shorter than the list of ones that do have bathrooms. However, some are "temporarily" closed (Malden Center for the past several years, unless they finally fixed it), "employees only" (Bowdoin), or hidden away somewhere in a maze of electrical closets.

And, if a station does not have a toilet room, they are required to let you back in for free if you have to leave the station to find a public toilet room at street level. But that would mean finding an employee to acknowledge your leaving and coming back in.
