There actually was an alligator in Jamaica Pond a few years back. Police first assumed it was a crank call, or somebody saw a log floating in the pond and got freaked out. But they figured they had to at least check it out. Sure enough, they found a 2 foot alligator swimming in the pond. They figure some idiot brought it up here as a pet, then dumped it when it got too big.
At 2 feet, I'm not sure how much of a danger it was to anyone. But it never would have survived the winter up here.
