Man charged with driving propane tanker down 128 while doped up

State Police report arresting a Peabody man on charges he was on drugs while weaving from lane to lane on Rte. 128 southbound in Lexington yesterday morning.
State Police dispatched a trooper after getting several reports from motorists of the tanker "driving erratically" around 11:30 a.m.
Trooper Angela Guerrera assigned to the State Police Barracks in Concord was dispatched and observed the propane tractor trailer commit motor vehicle violations. Tpr Guerrera activated her emergency lights and siren and stopped the tanker on the southbound side of route 128 in Lexington.
Driver Michael Bain, 43, of Peabody was arrested on charges of operating under the influence of a Class A drug, which covers opiates, operating negligently and marked-lanes violations.

DUI? Doesnt the driver know they could get a finger wagging for that, maybe even a ticket!
A "finger wagging" by the Massachusetts courts
is the least of this driver's problems, given the hit on his CDL this will result in for the driver. especially given he was driving a hazmat load when he was stopped.
It also sounds that he took a hit for mechanical issues as well (the "safety violations" noted in the MSP report). Even if he doesn't own (or lease) the truck, he still bears the responsibility for accepting the truck from his employer and driving the vehicle in that condition.

That is sad that the police/court system are less of a worry than insurance. You shouldn't be able to buy your way out of such reckless behavior that kills thousands of people every year.
It's a tanker all right...
...But I don't think it's a propane tanker. Most likely gasoline or oil. Propane tankers have heavier, more rounded tanks.

Yes, definitely non-pressurized (liquid) fuel in that tank. Propane and other compressed gases are carried in vessels with no corners.

should your caption read "The tanker in the State Police impound yard" instead. Because that sure doesn't look like the side of Interstate 95 (ok - Route 128) southbound in Lexington.

I think they managed to pull him off at an exit and nearby empty lot.
There are a couple of construction sites along there
One by the Rte 3 interchange, and another farther south. The cop could have told him to pull into one of those.
