His cross to bear

Man with a cross on Longwood Avenue

Why, yes, that was a guy carrying a cross down Longwood Avenue today, as Brian shows us. And yes, he had a pad and the wheel at one end to help him:

I should have called him out "REAL JESUS DIDN'T HAVE PADS OR TRAINING WHEELS!"

Yes, but I'm sure this guy wasn't beaten to death by the local cops on Friday afternoon.

Why dio I get the feeling this guy just wants to let everyone know they're a sinner, rather than suffering for anyone's sins?

He was trying to "cross" the street.

And said "Could you put me up for the night?"

Christianity continues to be an easy target for derision. Certain other religions seem to be passed by for comedy.
Good night all!

What if Christians did what ISIS does when people make jokes about the deity?

By the way, Islam's Allah and Christians' God is one in the same.

Christians think Jesus was god, Muslims think he was a prophet, just as Mohammed, the founder of their religion, was a prophet.

I think the guy carrying the cross had a story to tell. He wasn;t saying he was Jesus, he was saying he had a cross to bear. I'm guessing his burden was born of trauma. Reminded me of the Columbia student who is carrying her matress around campus.

...and simply practice their religion in private, they'll cease to be objects of public commentary.

And that will be AWESOME.

Can I assume that he was bringing that cross over to your house so you could nail yourself up on it?

A Catholic, which would be center of the spectrum compared to Evangelicals and Pentecostals in the right and the United Church of Christ, I found this photo and the early comments thereon funny.

I mean, God sends his only Son to spread the gospel of the new covenant. Jesus, who if you believe would have a legion of angels to defend him and if you don't believe would have a legion of earthly followers who could probably get his back, willingly suffers torture, gets crowned with a crown of thorns, then in a pitiful state is made to carry his cross to Golgotha where he is killed. In contrast, this shmuck is wheeling a cross, and as if his life wasn't that made easier by the wheels, he has padding for the cross. And I thought I was coasting through life living the Resurrection! At least I am not being blatant about it. Moreover, if he is commemorating the ultimate sacrifice of our Risen Savior, he's over 2 weeks late to the party.

So, if you want to point a finger at someone for denigrating the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, point to the guy in the photo.

Perhaps some group borrowed the cross for Passion Week -- and this guy is just taking it back to its "home". No reason to assume anything negative (or positive).

Insufficient data...

I actually witnessed a guy walking down my street with a cross.... and a wheel on the bottom. Maybe he moved?
