Citizen complaint of the day: Real dim bulbs at the Hyde Park library
By adamg on Thu, 04/30/2015 - 5:49pm
A concerned citizen squints:
The Hyde Park branch of the BPL has over 25 light bulbs out in the main reading/study room. Upon inquiring about this, I was referred to the custodian who told me work orders have been in for a very long time and there are over 105 lights output in the whole library. Granted that a special lift is necessary, but lighting is crucial in a reading/study/research area. Please help get us some lighting!

Thats sad.
N*star (Now Eversource) will probably ship a couple of boxes of LEDs for free.
I put in a bunch of Philips in a commercial space 25 feet up about 5 years ago. All still working fine. They run 14 hours a day. One and done.

interesting
Interesting.. I didn't know that. Makes me wanna switch to LEDs now...
The Psychology Today article is interesting about the subject (and I do trust the source on this one)
That 's not quite true.
That 's not quite true. Serotonin levels go up when you're exposed to bright light. While serotonin is up, melatonin is down. Melatonin helps you sleep, and serotonin keeps you away. The effect on serotonin is true for any light source (sunlight, incandescent, CFL, LED, laser beams, Phial of Galadriel, whatever) that emits blue wavelengths. It's not like CFL light specifically is bad for you.
All things equal, it's good to stay away from bright light close to bedtime. But if you're reading a book, then you are probably better off with bright light, because reading in dim light is worse for your eyes than artificial light is for your sleep.
It's a TRAPPPPP!
The Reds are at it again! They've depleted our wildlife, wasted our time with the concept of lines, and now they're trying to discourage education in the Free World...by making sure that the buildings of learning and the arts are too dark to read or learn!
We must be ever on the lookout for such plots!
