You're looking at one aspect and are fooled into believing that our overly restrictive gun laws mean better outcomes for the situation. Other parameters like socioeconomic issues need to be studied. No one ever thinks to ask young people why they feel the need to resort to illegal firearms as a protective mechanism. When said perpetrators actually do "pay a debt to society" their struggles are ones of economic inequality, a barring from almost every job and a likely return to gun life. The people like David Linsky and Michael Day making pointless new gun laws instead of spending time with black, poor kids actually do very little to help the overall problems.
