Cambridge Police report officers found two spent shell casings at the park entrance at York and Hamlin streets after somebody called about gunfire just before 3:30 a.m.
In addition to the shell casings, a soda can and cup that were stacked on top of each other were taken into evidence. Impact points were located by officers nearly 40 feet away from the can and cup on an open-sided metal canopy.
There were no apparent victims from the shooting police say, adding anybody who knows something can call them at 617-349-3300 or contact them anonymously by calling 617-349-3359 or sending a text message to 847411.

That's in the same area as the Arlington problem.

It's an easy 5 or 10 minute stumble from the homeless encampment next to Alewife T.
I wonder if the security theater in Arlington sent them to a quieter venue in Cambridge.

Donnelly Field is in Area 4, nowhere near Arlington. Maybe you're thinking of Danehy Park which is near Alewife.

Minor correction - Donnelly field is in Area 3 (Wellington-Harrington) which neighbors Area 4. Source: Cambridge City Map

Along with Area Four, this is the only area on the map with a number instead of a name. What is the accepted actual name of that area? Observatory Hill? Avon Hill? It's not quite Huron Village.
No it isn't.

Try looking at a map.
(This is usually a very quiet residential area of Cambridge.)

I live right along Donnelly field for almost 10 years. That drive by was awful but in no way is the field unsafe after x pm just because of it.

Problem in 'Arlington' is because of that dark, easy target of a bike trail that runs to Alewife ... Any issues come from homeless or kids from NC. Arlington itself does not have a problem, they need to do more about that bike trail and not just patrol it for a week then forget about it.
And that's Russell field you're numnuts thinking about

Security Theater

Psst - here's a little (open) secret from my years of involvement with initiatives related to "homeland security" type matters:
few security people think that they can put an end to what they are trying to stop/prevent (and most people avoid the people who think that they can). The name of the game is to "make it so that it is more likely to happen somewhere else".
Accordingly, if as you suggest these shots were fired by the people involved with the Arlington incident, well, my guess is that the Arlington Police are feeling pretty good about their security theater just now.

The perpetrators, clearly, are Boston-area teenage thug townie yuppies from out of town who go to MIT and live in the suburbs with the rest of the dirt Cantabrigian old-timers, the type who ride bicycles on the sidewalks on their way to their vehicles, which they drive recklessly.
