Man shot in early morning Ashmont robbery

A man walking to the Ashmont T stop on Bailey Street around 5 a.m. Wednesday was shot by somebody who first demanded his phone and wallet, according to a posting by C-11 police on a neighborhood mailing list:
A brief struggle ensued and the suspect fired a shot striking the victim. The suspect fled on foot to Carmela Lane and possibly fled in a red colored motor vehicle. The suspect was possibly wearing turquoise colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black hat. The race of the suspect is unknown at this time.
The victim was taken to the hospital with a serious injury, but is expected to survive, police say.
Fox Boston reports the gunman got away with $16.

The Early Scumbag Gets The Worm
There have been stories after stories of these urban highwaymen just standing on Fuller, Bailey, and Ashmont Streets between Washington and Dot Ave just picking off people as they walk to the T for work. It doesn't happen on Mercier, at least I am not aware, for some reason, maybe because the road turns a corner and complicates an escape.
BPD; many will be pleased if you just beat the tar out of one of these individuals outside O'Briens, even if everyone has their phones going. I and many others, black, white, brown, Martian, or whatever will buy you a drink for your efforts.

Criminals don't work 9-5
I think it was probably a very late scumbag, not an early one. There's always that weird Twilight Zone time where normal people are out jogging or biking after 4am and run into people who have been kept up all night via chemicals.

Slightly off topic, but this was one of my favorite sights on that street.
It's hard to comprehend the scumbagginess
of someone who commits this kind of crime. The folks who are up at five heading to work are probably the hardest working of all of us and among the most vulnerable. Wishing the victim a speedy recovery and hoping that BPD sets up some kind of sting here and catch these aholes.

Passing more laws to make
Passing more laws to make illegal activity double plus illegal doesn't help when the judiciary keeps letting violent people back out on the streets in only 3-5 years. Keeping people locked up or finding ways to encourage them to not re-offend is the only way to stop the madness. More laws pig piled on top of existing laws already screaming "DON'T DO THAT!" aren't going to fix anything.
These types of violent street robberies
were VERY common when I was a child back in the 80s, into 90s. Older folks tell me the 1970s were really, really bad for street crime. So, nothing really new going on. It's been tolerated in our urban areas for going on half a century now.
Ashmont neighborhood
The area around the station is vibrant and the station is beautiful. The station is safe except for when the thousands of teens overwhelm the police in the afternoon fighting and kicking out train windows but on the whole a great place to live and dine in fine restaurants.

Agree with both sentiments. While i never thought as a teen that i was scary , now i see teens on the t in loud and cursing herds as threatening. So its official - i am an old biddy.
