Christopher Columbus cleans up quickly
By adamg on Tue, 06/30/2015 - 2:52pm
Matt Conti at NorthEndWaterfront.com forwarded this photo of the defacement of the Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus Park some time last night.
By noon today, the paint and message were completely gone after a thorough power washing by a city crew.
Over the years, the statue has been marked up by people with a point to make - once, the statue was even decapitated.

DPW Lives Matter
They do good work in cleaning up defacements like this.
Black Lives Matter graffiti is the new Not Art.
...vandalism.
...vandalism.
Sloganeering
Why does everything always have to be reduced to slogans? "Boston Strong", "Black Lives Matter".
Slogans are lazy and basically meaningless.
Like "Taxation Without
Like "Taxation Without Representation." What the hell did that ever mean or prove, amirite?
It used to mean something.
Nowadays, nobody gives a shit.
Lazy and meaningless?!
And how would you categorize the slogan: "I am a man", perchance?
Yeah, kind of agree. There
Yeah, kind of agree. There are some great slogans, but a lot of activist statements these days are just dumbed down straw men arguments. Of course black lives matter. These kinds of stunts are an embarrassment to people to actually spend their time, energy, and intelligence to work on addressing social injustice.
It's because Gen Y consider
It's because Gen Y consider themselves brave for making a "statement" on the internet from behind a computer or cell phone. Any outdoors event is just a party for self congratulation on the ability to remember a catchphrase. But don't dare say this to them, because that's fascism/bigotry or the most hateful word they know: "conservative."
So you're saying that
parasites who don't work, live off the rest of us and have the intellect of vegetables are lazy and meaningless? Yeah, I'm down with that.
Yep, this'll really win
Yep, this'll really win people over. So these are the new Occupy clowns?
Probably the same
white folk who sat in the middle of traffic on 93 a few months back, setting back the cause quite a bit.
We'll never forget that day
It's the first and only time that white people have caused traffic on 93.
I don't condone vandalism yet
Columbus was a tyrant (as the Governor of the Indies). So horrid and cruel that Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand had him replaced, and there should be no park, nor statue, nor holiday in his honor, in my opinion.
Why do you hate history?
Is it because you hate America, too? I'M JUST ASKING QUESTIONS
Agreed.
Columbus was a horrible person with no respect for other human beings. That statue should be defaced on a daily basis or just taken down.
Decapitated twice.
Head found once, resculptee once, I believe
christopher columbus statues should be removed
it's not a respectable part of our past.
but columbus should be condemned through an official act, preferably demanded by a voting proposition with overwhelming public support. that's so much more meaningful than vandalism, and it's also lawful.
this kind of vandalism is mostly illiterates, idiots, and druggies. those people make themselves hard to respect.
I sympathize, but do we also get rid of all these things?

The gap between renaming a city street and renaming an entire country is fairly wide....

Many of the mouth foamers on TV and Radio advocate getting rid of DC on a daily basis.

Doesn't this make it clear
Doesn't this make it clear that the 54th monument desecration was done by the same folks?
If BlackLivesMatters is so
If BlackLivesMatters is so offended by Christopher Columbus they can ask the nation of Colombia to change its name. But that won't happen. Because that would force White Guilt liberals to face "people of color" in Latin America who don't agree with their PC agenda
you
are pretty dumb
If you're going to make a
If you're going to make a statement like this, do it properly. Splash the statue and scrawl your message with real human blood instead of paint.
Columbus?
Maybe I'm being clueless I don't really get this. Is there some direct connection between Columbus and black lives?
Well...
Columbus introduced race-based slavery into the New World....
