Christopher Columbus cleans up quickly

Matt Conti at NorthEndWaterfront.com forwarded this photo of the defacement of the Christopher Columbus statue in Columbus Park some time last night.
By noon today, the paint and message were completely gone after a thorough power washing by a city crew.
Over the years, the statue has been marked up by people with a point to make - once, the statue was even decapitated.

These kinds of stunts are an embarrassment to people to actually spend their time, energy, and intelligence to work on addressing social injustice.

Any outdoors event is just a party for self congratulation on the ability to remember a catchphrase. Columbus was a tyrant (as the Governor of the Indies). So horrid and cruel that Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand had him replaced, and there should be no park, nor statue, nor holiday in his honor, in my opinion.

but columbus should be condemned through an official act, preferably demanded by a voting proposition with overwhelming public support. that's so much more meaningful than vandalism, and it's also lawful.
