was on the east side of Washington Street in the South End, just south of what's now the Mass Pike.
That's indeed where the theater was, but...

the building in the photo looks nothing like the building in Wikipedia's entry on the theater. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_Theatre_%28...). Perhaps that's only a billboard advertising shows at the Columbia, and not the theater itself.
Original Columbia bldg burned down...

in 1917 or so. A new Columbia Theater was built in it's place. The wiki picture is a shot of the old building, pre-inferno.
So, perhaps the picture is of the rebuilt Columbia?

Thanks for playing folks! This is 12 Shawmut Avenue circa 1898. The photo is undated, but we did some research and found this program for Shore Acres showing at the Boston Theatre in 1898. http://www.performingartsarchive.com/Other-shows/S...
