Jesus, Mary, St. Joseph
when will it stop?!
Bleah!
Does anyone know why this pumpkin trend has gotten so out of hand? Pumpkin is barely edible.
The secret
Few of these things are made with actual pumpkin. They're made with the spices that make pumpkin edible.
Kind of like cranberries...
Cranberries in their natural state are so bitter as to be inedible. But once they are sweetened they are palatable.
Disagree
Raw cranberries are delicious. They aren't any more bitter than black coffee. (Which is the only way to drink coffee.)
People need to stop assuming it must be sweet or savory to be edible. Fresh raw cranberries are a great snack.
The price is wrong, probably
I really like pumpkin/squash with pasta, but you're probably paying $3/pound for whatever corn syrup-laden glop is in those jars. Just peel and seed a pumpkin and roast it with olive oil and pumpkin pie spice.
Pumpkin pasta sauce: A haiku
No no no no no
No no no no no no no
NO NO NO NO NO
(I was the finder of the pumpkin hummus a few weeks ago - also at Stop& Shop - and am considering shopping at Star Market til December to reduce my instances of gourd-triggered trauma)
Adorable!
Butternut Squash
Now, let's not throw all the gourds out with the marinara. Butternut squash is usually pretty good and is paired with herbs (thyme, sage) as opposed to the cinnamon and nutmeg of pumpkin.
Holy shit
I just got Elmered by the actual verified Elmer! I never dreamed this day was even possible!
Pumpkin comes first!
Sorry, Suldog. Couldn't resist.
Reminds me of a joke...
A turkey is having sex with a pumpkin....
I just made a joke about this last night in the grocery store
We walked past the pasta sauce and I was like, "Is there pumpkin spice pasta sauce? Hahahahaha."
But there is.
I did once have some really good but a little too sweet pumpkin ravioli at Cambridge Brewing Company years ago. Pumpkin can work with pasta, if you're careful.
Had pumpkin peanut butter and pumpkin butter ...
... I was shocked at how good the pumpkin peanut butter was, but like Adam said, there wasn't any pumpkin in it, just pumpkin spices.
The pumpkin butter was made with pumpkin and spices - and that was good too (but the pumpkin peanut butter was better).
And I don't like pumpkin pie, so I'll not push my luck so I pass on the pumpkin pasta sauce.
Pumpkin Milano Cookies
I saw Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Milano Cookies in Shaw's today. Is nothing sacred?
Coping mechanism
I find the whole pumpkin craze a lot more fun if you substitute "cat laxative" for "pumpkin" wherever you see it.
Cat laxative peanut butter!
Cat laxative chicken sausage!
Etc.
And yes, it is one.
