The Herald reports Mayor Walsh doesn't want to let go of harbor fireworks without a fight, after hearing they might not go on due to the cost.

He shouldn't have killed first night and sold the carcass to the lowest bidder if he didn't want that distinction.

Is it cheaper to do fireworks on the common or in the harbor for a midnight show?

Just four minutes of fireworks, as the clock struck midnight on January 1, 1977.

I'm not sure when the midnight fireworks shifted from the Common to the harbor; that would require more research than I felt like doing last night.

How much is "Conventures" paid for First Night?

How much is Conventures paid for First Night? Nothing against Dusty Rhodes, she has been involved for years, but with the city's massive payroll, there's nobody at City Hall who could plan this? I agree with a comment on an earlier thread, the Fourth of July Esplanade concert is next to go. After they brought in "Doctor" Phil McGraw and his wife to emcee, only to have them announce divorce a few days after, then a year or two later Lionel Ritchie cancels at the last minute due to a "scratchy throat," it's just a matter of time.
