Political motivation to Galluccio investigation?

At Mass. Revolution, Andy wonders why now for the investigation into whether Cambridge City Councilor - and state Senate candidate - Anthony Galluccio caused a multi-car accident in downtown Boston this past December while under the influence:
I sense that this is being played out because of the impending Senate race and I think that that is unfortunate for those voters in that Senate district.
However, that would require the Boston police, EMTs and residents who were involved to actually care about a Cambridge/Somerville state senate race, no?

The guy didn’t even have
The guy didn't even have an opponent when this first came out, which was a while ago.
Do you think a potential candidate planted this story so that they could announce their candidacy later? Sounds like a shaky thesis to me.
