Remembering Ethel Weiss
By adamg on Thu, 12/17/2015 - 1:08pm
Tracey Staedter was heartened today to see all the sticky notes left on Irving's on Harvard Street by fans of longtime owner Ethel Weiss, who died last week at 101:

Ever since my daughter was born
Ever since my daughter was born in February, I had intended to visit Irving's to buy her a toy and hopefully get picture of her with Ms. Weiss. So sad I won't get that chance now.
She was 101 years old...what
She was 101 years old...what were you waiting for?!?!?
How long before its a $400K condo?
or $2,500/month micro apartment (with great natural light)?
The business is still in
The business is still in business without her.
Cuious to know who's running it?
Her kids? Grandkids? Will it go on without her?
Her daughter maybe?
An earlier news story mentioned one of her daughters had been helping her with the books recently.
I remember that store.
It was a cute, cool little place, with neat stuff. Ethel Weiss was a nice woman, too.
Wonderful human being
I took my one-year-old son to her shop in 2012, and she didn't have a care if we were interested in buying a single thing. She wanted to meet my son, a complete stranger who couldn't even talk. She asked me about him, about me, about my wife, and anyone else I wanted to talk about. And her sincerity was remarkable. I was incredibly touched by that interaction.
I'm happy for the legacy this wonderful person has bestowed upon her family. 101 years of love an respect for others. That's a good way to go.
Indeed
We should all be so blessed.
