Updated with BFD info.
Around 8:40 a.m., in the middle of the channel, the Boston Fire Department reports.
It's near where two men were safely fished out of the water in December, near where a number of homeless people now camp under the Expressway.

It's sad so many homeless people live under that bridge especially with so many new building sites between the south end and south boston.
That would be the Broadway Bridge

In case anyone was scratching their head wondering where the hell that bridge is.

It's W 4th Street bridge. The photographer is himself on the Broadway - nee Jimmy Kelly - bridge.
Tragedy, still.

Bass River?

Of all the major map sites (Google,Yahoo,Bing and Mapquest), only Google shows that body of water as separated from Fort Point Channel by the land bridge that carries Dot Ave into the USPS facility. It calls that separate water "Bass River". It measures only .3 miles long and would seem presumptuous to call it a river. But, hey, it's Google so it must be right.

I don't know when "Bass River" came to be, don't see it on any historic maps.
The river, however, historically ran all the way from Atlantic Ocean to South Bay (or, vice versa, I guess).

for the great information and link - sincerely. Uhub teaches me something every time I tune in.
The friendly (and not-so-friendly) sniping is entertaining, too.
