Two shot in Ashmont
By adamg on Wed, 05/04/2016 - 7:26am
Boston EMS Incidents and WBZ report two people were shot on Bailey Street shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Because of the severity of at least one victim's injuries, the homicide unit was requested, just in case.
Last July, a man was shot to death near there.

Are homicide rates increasing
Are homicide rates increasing in Boston as they are in other major metro areas?
It is going to be a long hot summer.
No, they're not
Latest stats show no increase in homicides (we're actually down 1 from the same period last year).
Thanks.
Thanks.
Shootings are actually a more
Shootings are actually a more appropriate statistic to asses violence, which Boston has quite more than are reported on.
Our homicides are fewer than many metropolitan areas because of our world class hospitals.
Shootings are much more
Shootings are much more difficult to accurately track however. Homicide is generally a better indicator due to stat reliability.

Are shootings on the rise?
I didn't see anything about reported shootings (maybe characterized as attempted homicide) on that chart. Are those tracked separately from homicides? Thanks for posting this info.
They're actually down
Sorry, yes, shootings are tracked separately.
http://bpdnews.com/news/?category=Crime+Stats is where you'll find links to the latest stats - you might have to scroll down a bit, through the daily summaries.
Thanks!
Thanks, Adam. Good to know they're down, too.
gang related? Who knows
I get amazed when I read in the paper, or am told at a neighborhood meeting that a shooters or victims are "known to police" or "not from the area" or "targeted", particularly if the shooting takes place within feet of similar shootings as is the case with this shooting. To me, this is clearly gang/drug related. They are happening at the same area for a reason. There has been two other shooting at/near this location in the past year. Literally, within feet from each other. What else can be deducted?
