Boston Latin School students walked into school today to find hallways lined with charcoal drawings of all 410 or so graduating seniors on their last full day of school. Philip Sossou of Roslindale started working on the drawings in February.

very cool. I hope this kid becomes a successful courtroom artist or something. Lord knows they could replace the "ugly brady-monster" lady with him!
Great job Phillip!!

This kid has incredible talent! Here's hoping that he goes on to do something with it after he finishes high school! I'm sure he'd have no problem getting into any art school that he applied to, if he wanted to go.

From the Globe:
"Sissou — bound for Bunker Hill Community College this fall and later, he hopes, the University of Massachusetts Amherst to study computer science —"
the online article features a great color photo with him standing behind his self-portrait.

That is amazing. I literally have tears in my eyes--what a talented kid and what a cool, generous way to put your talent to use. Lucky classmates. I hope art is a huge part of his future.

This is an article about a Boston public school student doing something unique and cool... and I'm seeing nothing but comments praising him for it. Where's the anonymous commenter berating him for wasting his time drawing when he could have been out feeding homeless orphans or whatever? Where are the impromptu art critics pointing out tiny technical flaws? Has the upcoming holiday weekend dulled your senses? Are you guys all feeling OK? Blink twice if you're being held against your will.

Maybe the school is not such a hate-filled bigotted place as reading a handful of sensationalist news articles and listening to divisive politically motivated rhetoric would have you believe?

Like so much else involving people, it has its good and bad points.
But right now, I don't care. I'm just happy for all the kids (one of them right upstairs as I type this) who made it through six years there. They're ending one adventure in their lives and they're about to start another.
Count me as another who's astonished

Boston Latin is far from hate

Boston Latin is far from hate-filled. All of us there are loving people. The news you all read makes it seem worse than it is. Sure, theres some hatred, but its a select amount of people causing the uproar here. Everyone gets along and the only thing that 99.9% of us Latin students hate is the amount of homework we get a night. It's offensive to find people rating on everyone, when in reality, its mainly teachers who accidentally give the wrong mindset. Please watch what you say about our school and its students. Thank you

I like seeing this. When I was at BLS in the early 70s the arts were not encouraged. There was one tiny little art room in the basement with one teacher, and there was one music room, also in the basement. The administration did not place any importance on them. The art class was an elective and had very limited enrollment. What sticks in my mind is that you could listen to the radio in the art class. Tuned to WBCN of course, as it was the early 70s after all and the music they were playing was great.
Wow!!! I love that big video of the drawings of all the BLS
