Pretty sure that's in Roxbury. The Cunningham / Doggett House and Tavern down on Washington Street or something. Classic Boston.

by the two what looks like brass railings in front of the windows. Were they there for tipsy patrons to lean on & keep them from falling through the glass? Or could people quaff their beverage of choice outside along the rails? Anyone have any idea?

Anything like that would be at the curb, wouldn't it?. Otherwise horses would be blocking a public sidewalk, not to mention fouling it & patrons' shoes

is Washington Street, where Melnea Cass intersects today (though Melnea Cass is much more recent, and I can't find a decent street atlas from that far back). I don't think that's it, though... I think it's the Alley Brewery over on Heath Street. The production facility is shown in a picture here, and I thinkl this was a distribution facility (read: pub) that sold exclusively Reuter & Alley beer, back before there was a law against that on the books.

For those who enjoy reading the police blotter, here's a mention of a robbery at Nolte's liquor store, which is listed as 2056 Washington St. (Obviously a transcribing error)

Washington Street in Roxbury. The Cunningham and Doggett Houses burned down in the mid to late 80s. Just out of view to the right of frame is the Owen Nawn Factory, Eliot Burying Ground, and the Eustis Street Fire Station.
Some great info on the area can be found on the City's website here.
The Eustis Street firehouse is now the home of Historic Boston Incorporated, which has done some great work all over the city.

It’s amazing to see how far the city of Boston has come! It is also interesting to see that people in Boston and the suburbs always enjoyed a good beer. Although this particular alehouse is no longer in existence, it is still possible to enjoy a delicious local beer elsewhere!
