Register of Deeds Primary Polling Info?
By tmrozzie on Wed, 08/31/2016 - 11:21pm
Does anyone have any kind of polling numbers in this race? There are a few candidates I'm deciding between, but I'm not ashamed to say that any coalescing of the anti-Murphy vote would help me in my decision.

#NeverMurphy
ever
I'm with you
But he has name recognition and his signs are everywhere. I'm concerned the lesser-known candidates will split the remaining votes so much that he walks into the general.
that is the way it works. one
that is the way it works. one of the two other candidates is likely a friend of Murphy.
YES!
Murphy has skipped multiple public forums in favor of private Democratic ward meetings. Clearly trying to leverage the local Democratic party machine to get him into office.
Yep
Last week, he skipped out on a JP forum sponsored by two Democratic ward committees and a RoxVote forum in Dudley (where one of the independent candidates he will face in November - who is not John Keith - replied to the question of why he's running by saying he's been working on commission for 27 years now and would like a steady salary for a change). Our pal Doug also gave the forums a miss - he told one of the organizers of the JP forum he considers such things a waste of time.
Not me ...
Yes, definitely NOT ME who did that, but I admire his ::chutzpah::.
Regarding information, there is plenty of it out there, on each of the candidates. There have been as many as 12 Democratic forums during the past couple of months (forums I was not invited to attend, being a non-party candidate), so do a Google or Facebook search to find video. Some Democratic wards have even endorsed candidates, if you like that sort of thing.
I can also point you to YouTube, where Chris Lovett of BNN News has interviews with all of the Democratic candidates (except Doug Bennett). It will give you an idea of each candidate's personality and demeanor, as well as their ideas for the office.

As a candidate, I don't know for sure who I even want to win the primary. I know who I'm voting for (it's a secret) but, strategically, I have no idea. I do know that I'm ready, willing, and able to go up against Mr. Murphy. Beyond being "not Steve Murphy", I have the qualifications to do the job and, as important, the desire to do the job.
(BTW, there are three non-party candidates running in the general election against whomever wins the Democratic primary. The three of us have real estate backgrounds - real estate broker, real estate broker, title examiner - and know what the job's all about.)
Thanks!
Yes, I'm a dyed in the wool progressive, but definitely don't think register of deeds is a position where that should have any meaning. Good to have this BNN resource, so I appreciate it. Good luck!
Flyer going around
On the other hand
I got something in the mail from Jeff Ross the other day. He touted his knowledge of the real estate field, unlike several other candidates (the names of two of them are in the flier above) who have no real experience with the Registry.
Of course, this is all prelude to being the person who will lose to John A Keith, but we all know that here.
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE.
I like this flyer. Without
I like this flyer. Without even reading it, I can see Forde is clearly the kind of person who will keep you company when you are sitting in an empty room or hanging out alone behind the bleachers in a neon shirt. Murphy can't even be bothered to carefully cut out newspaper clippings--he just rips them out and throws them all over the place like he's making a poster for a punk concert or blanketing the floor of a hamster cage. Based on my in-depth political analysis, my polls show Forde as the clear winner as emperor of all deeds.
I hear there's this new guy...
I think his name is Bennett Douglas or something like that. Never heard of him before.
Anyone know more about him?
Hmm not sure
I wonder if there is a way for him to get some visibility in a way that subtly insinuates his status as an "everyman" candidate running a DIY campaign with support for the BIG PAINT lobby?
RoboDoug
Dougie B , the man who painted over the word "Sherriff" with "Register of Deeds" robo-called me twice in the last week. He referred to himself as "your next Register of Deeds". I think the man should be arrested and fined heavily for littering the city with his juvenile signs.
I saw one poll conducted at the lumber section of home depot.
The leading candidate has purchased all of the plywood. It's not even close.
Steve Murphy needs to get a
Steve Murphy needs to get a real goddamn job. I obviously support Mr. Keith in the general, but what's my strategy for the primary? Vote for Dougie, because he's an easier target than Murphy or Forde in November?
Even the globe did a piece on it...

WOW!
I mean, they took the words right out of my mouth. They didn't answer the question, though. I know this race is too small for anyone to spend money on polling. But I wonder if someone more in the know has an idea which way the winds are shifting for these non-Murphy candidates.

Post-Election Audits
Post-Election Audits restore voter confidence in elections by ensuring that every vote is counted.

Massachusetts uses paper ballots that are counted by voting machines with optical scanners. Paper ballots can provide a fail-safe check on the machines. However, Massachusetts does not use these ballots to randomly audit voting machine results
Audits are an important best practice. Audits are performed in whenever important numbers are involved. Post-Election Audits can ensure that every vote is counted.
Massachusetts needs to conduct routine Post-Election Audits. After each election, a small number of randomly selected precincts will be audited. Election officials will hand-count the paper ballots and compare tallies with machine counts. If discrepancies arise, election officials can conduct further investigations.
Post-Election Audits are essential for:
. Verifying election outcomes
. Finding voter machine malfunctions
. Deterring fraud
. Providing for continuous improvement in the conduct of elections
. Promoting public confidence in elections
Random audits produce data that election officials can use. Audits enable election officials to find and fix weaknesses in their procedures and identify common voter mistakes, making the process fairer and more reliable.

Nutting's the one
Based on the piece in the Globe today, it seems like Nutting is the best person for the job. He's got my vote.
Sweet
"I'm voting Nutting, honey."
"But, George, you gotta vote!"
Nutting doing!
I was trying to stay serious, despite many obvious route to humor.
