Quincy PD puts out BOLO for alleged Beachcomber swindler
Quincy Police got an arrest warrant today for a guy accused of swindling local investors out of $1.65 million they thought would go towards buying and re-opening the shuttered Beachcomber on Quincy Shore Drive.
Police had this to say about the man, identified as Scott J. Wolas - who is wanted for similar schemes in New York and Alabama:
Mr. Wolas, 67, is described as a well spoken, heavy set white male. He goes by the aliases: Eugene Grathwohl, Frank Amolsch, Drew Prescott, Allen Lee Hengst, and Robert Francis McDowell. He was last seen Thursday 9/15/2016 being dropped at the UMass/JFK train station.
The Globe has more on the Beacomber scam.
Innocent, etc.

He's the perfect conman
But I still don't understand why anyone would fall for giving him large sums of $. At the very least, the $ should have been held in escrow. So many things about him should have raised red flags, but I'm a paranoid man when it comes to things like this. Going out and drinking with me, and be gregarious and charming, wouldn't cut it.
Well, he's a bit different from the flat-tire guy on the street
Based on the Globe story, he'd been in Quincy for awhile and built up a lot of trust before springing his scheme, unlike the guy who comes up to you and asks for money to get his flat fixed. I suspect something similar happened with the West Roxbury ice-cream guy and probably even Ponzi himself.
Police Capt. John Dougan said
Police Capt. John Dougan said Wolas even swindled his live-in girlfriend, Lorraine Croft, by refinancing their home on Warwick Street in Quincy and taking off with the money. Dougan said Croft knew Wolas had multiple aliases, but she was told it was because he was in the CIA.
Croft, 62, said she has to move out of her house after being duped by Wolas. On Tuesday, ownership of Croft’s home was transferred to the lender that had granted Croft a second mortgage worth $200,000 on the property just last month, according to the Norfolk County Registry of Deeds. Grathwohl and his company, Increasing Fortune, Inc., were parties listed on a mortgage security agreement and financing statement. “I’m a victim,” Croft said.

Way more trustworthy than ...
Faux Rockefeller
I wonder?
This thief stole over a million dollars and escaped on the T. I wonder did he pay his fare or like hundreds of others at JFK sneak in without paying?
Off topic rant
I read this story yesterday in the Globe. This is great front page material! Instead, it was hidden on page 2 of the Business section. The front page had Elizabeth Warren shooting off her mouth and stories about how hard it is to hire waiters and that Russians think it's weird that Trump likes Putin.
/rant
that was off topic
How dare one of our Senators call for the head of company that actively defrauded consumers be held accountable. It's shocking.
She's OK
My take on that whole Wells Fargo hearing is that the Senators used it to show off to their constituents how tough they are on the miscreants of the financial world. They dragged the WF guy through the mud for hours (he deserved it), but in the end nothing happened. He went home to his mansion and the Senators went off to the bar to pat themselves on the back for a job well-done.
Exactly!
Exactly!
and none of this happened until....
OBAMA!!!!!!
If you say so....
If you say so....
Well Rush told me so It's true.
Benghazi!!
If you're frustrated about
If you're frustrated about what makes front page or is most visible, you can easily set up flipboard or other applications to highlight the things you find most important (illegal Quincy business scams) and hide things that you find irrelevant (Senate hearings on illegal business scams at the national level that one of our senators is taking part). Or even just get the local Quincy paper.
If your just saying why doesn't the Globe (or any other mid size newspaper) only put things on the front page you want to see and hide everything else on page 2 of the business section, you might not get your wish since it would be hard to print an individual, customized copy for each subscriber.
It's the general trend I oppose
Too much fluff ends up on page 1, when there is real news to report that gets buried elsewhere. The Wells Fargo story would have been right at home (and still prominent) on page 2. This ponzi guy would have been the talk of the town (which would help to locate him) if the story wasn't buried.
money would be better spent
on his bridgework, of the dental variety
He was not into infrastructure
development.
My thoughts exactly!!!!
