Both suspects in Roslindale gun battle now in custody
Updated.
A Boston officer and a state trooper came under fire this afternoon during an investigation on Newburg Street, off Belgrade Avenue. They returned fire. One suspect was quickly arrested, the other fled, but was arrested tonight, Boston Police report.
Police Commissioner William Evans said tonight nobody was injured in the gunfire exchange, around 4:40 p.m., but that the Boston officer did suffer a minor injury during the incident.
The initially arrested suspect, whom the Herald IDed as Luis Colon, 25, and Rosado-Gonzalez both face arraignment in West Roxbury Municipal Court tomorrow on charges of assault with intent to murder, Evans said.
Through the night, Newburg was shut as Boston and State Police SWAT officers conducted door-to-door and yard-to-yard searches, with a State Police helicopter overhead shining a spotlight on the street.
Jess Mason, who lives next to the house where the gunfire came from, reports:
First there were lots of gunshots (popping so probably pistol rounds) then car pealing, then cops yelling.
Train service on the nearby Needham Line was shut as officers tracked Rosado-Gonzalez down the line towards and past Roslindale Village. A search dog picked up a possible scent on Lee Hill Road, just past the Dunkin' Donuts on Washington Street.
Boston officers boarded an outbound train just before Roslindale Village.
The Sumner and Mozart schools were put in "safe" mode - nobody let in or out - for about ten minutes at the outset of the incident.
At 5:42 p.m., Michelle Geffken reported from South Street:
Armed police just checked our garden shed. Flung the door open. No one inside, thank God.

That explains
the sirens I'm hearing on Centre St. Thanks Adam. You can always count on UHub.
UHUB for the news
Thanks, Adam, for posting. My kid was playing outside and came in to tell me about the helicopters. UHUB gave me the info I needed... hope they get the guy on the run soon.
Description?
Any description of the other suspect? We could keep an eye out. I work near there today.
For such a large search operation
They put out very limited information. The MBTA didn't notify riders of the Needham line of delays until 6 pm, but that's expected it's the MBTA.
Anything would have been nice
Granted, I saw there was a shooting on my phone, but there was no announcement on the 5:27 about what the trains were doing. The conductor just stood outside chatting. I eventually left and it probably took me longer to get to Forest Hills on the subway, but at least I was moving.
That's not true. I was taking
That's not true. I was taking the 8:50 home last night, so I wasn't that worried, but I received my first alert at 5:17pm. They may not get much right, but considering that's right around when the news broke (thanks Twitter), that's not too bad for timing. I just wish it was like that more often....And that I could get a seat in the morning.....
i dont even care
unless the guy was dressed as a clown
You don't care that a police
You don't care that a police officer officer was shot?
Fuck. You.
lol
relax kid, theres nobody here for you to impress with your tough guy BS. maybe if you spent more time reading the articles here instead of coming in to mindlessly posture you'd have a better idea of whats going on.
Oh no, I'm well aware of the
Oh no, I'm well aware of the "clown epidemic" and yet, I still think you are an asshole.
A lot of us have family members who are police officers and when we hear about what happened today, we feared the worse like we have had to so many times before. So you'll pardon me to hell if I don't feel like reading you're abhorrent attempt at a joke when I am trying to find out information about my loved ones and their friends and co-workers.
On behalf of all of us who have police officers in our family and have to live with the daily fear that something horrible like this can happen to them, again, I say:
FUCK. YOU.
well, heres a little tip for you my child
time is linear, and at the time i wrote the comment, the story wasn't reporting that anybody was shot.
whether or not that would have impacted my decision is a different, and irrelevant matter entirely.
but please, continue to honor your loved ones and coworkers so well with your exemplary behavior. i'm sure those people you worship so much that, in theory, have dedicated their lives to public service, think you're a real hero.
Edit: oh, and, as it turns out, no cops were shot at all. sorry your platform for righteous indignation has poofed on you.
so, to borrow from your parlance, fuck off m8 ;-)
But they were shot at while
But they were shot at while trying to take guns from very dangerous people. It's awful and tragic regardless of whether they were hit and their families deserve our support.
sure
in the future ill endeavor to consider your feelings when referencing other recent happenings in the news in an attempt at humor.
Ok let's move on and just
Ok let's move on and just keep 'em locked up this time. People like this are sucking life out of what's left of anything good in our neighborhoods. And my paycheck.
Shots
The report I heard was a Statey was shot in the chest, but had a vest on, hence. the 'minor' injury.
Yes, that was the initial report I heard as well
But now they're saying he banged his head somehow and was not shot.
Wow youre quick beat the news
Wow youre quick beat the news outlets. Lucky trooper
This IS a news outlet.
This IS a news outlet.
I live on Colberg and I was
I live on Colberg and I was out frony when I saw a bunch of unmarked cars screeching up and down my street and intersecting streets so I threw on the police scanner to see what's up and at that moment is when I heard shots over the radio and in person. Saw one alleged suspect be taken into custody.
I'm the neighbor
I'm a neighbor to this house. I've seen four state police in camo with machine guns pointing at the house since before 5. First there were lots of gunshots (popping so probably pistol rounds) then car pealing, then cops yelling. Since then it's been a standoff, with local and state police coordinating. Most of the bustle is down the street - keeping the number of officers directly near the house to a minimum.
Thanks for the info
Don't answer (of course) if you're not comfortable, but is this surprising to you? Meaning did the residents seem like they would be involved in a gun trafficking bust?
Belgrade is the seedy underbelly of Roslindale I guess. First the drug trafficking out of the old Albanian restaurant, now this.
Belgrade Ave
Excuse me but there is nothing seedy about Belgrade Ave
Sarcasm
I mean, this and the drug dealing restaurants were real but no, I don't think Belgrade is really seedy. OTOH, there is plenty of drug dealing around and of course unsolved murders of teenagers, but I guess we've all mentally accepted that stuff as ok as long as there's a cool stuff like a wine store and a parklet in town. That's more of a living in the city thing vs. Roslindale specific thing however.
Gun Trafficking
From the Globe: Boston and State Police were at the house to conduct a "gun trafficking interdiction operation". So yes, this was a targeted operation.
Ymean
ZOG was goin after mah second amendment?
trust is a conversation
Here's what I don't get. Why send two plain clothes officers, one BPD one state Police, to a home for a gun trafficking interdiction, if that's what happened. How is one of the two persons of interest able to flee, if that's what happened?
At the same time, congratulations on two arrests as well as no serious injury or death of officers or the two men arrested.
They're being charged with attempted murder but nothing on gun trafficking so far. Now is a good time to disclose how this thing went sideways, and if it didn't then explain all the obvious questions.
Disclosure is essential to building trust. All the people who kept their heads down Tuesday evening deserve no less.
.
.
Yeah the Albanian whorehouse
Yeah the Albanian whorehouse on Belgrade sure ain't seedy
Wait, what?
That place across from the dry cleaners or Rustica?
K-9 Unit
They've added a K-9 unit at the house.
Roslindale shooting
Heard police are looking for a Hispanic male wearing long shorts
Is this why some Needham commuter trains
were cancelled?
Guarantee you this involved drug trafficking.
Yes on trains
The operation involved guns, not drugs, though.
whew
thats a relief
theres a war against drugs, so that could get sloppy
where as guns are a constitutional right, and much safer!
Call it a hunch, or maybe an assumption
But these were probably illegal guns trafficked from out of state. And where you usually have illegal guns you have schedule 1, 2 & 3 illegal drugs.
Unless you think this was a licensed gun dealer who's also a licensed pharmacologist.
Maybe MA can start with appointing judges who will impose the law for convictions.
Somehow I doubt the preps
Somehow I doubt the preps legally acquired let alone could legally posses firearms. Betting on frequent customers of the justice system here.

Troopers were fired on, but none hit.
So......????
is there an armed fugitive on the loose? Thanks for all the reassurances BPD n MSP
Unclear if he still has a gun
But he's no longer in the area, at least.
The Suner School? Never heard of it...
Do you mean Charles Sumner; the "Radical" Republican Sen. from MA who fought to abolish slavery and at the same time granted voting rights for all Americans, even the confederates (after they got their *%& whooped), and unlike the Dem's % vote for slaves....
Ya, i went to the C. Sumner. Imagine if i went their now? The liberal teachers would probably call him a Nazi...
And yes, i do realize you made a typographic error. Its just always good to know why things are named what they are.
Fixed.
But come on: Sumner was as liberal as they got back in the day. I realize it's fun to pretend Republican and Democrats never switched, but back in the day, the Republicans were the liberals and the Democrats weren't. Somewhere over the next 100 years they switched, starting with Goldwater. But you know that.
All suspects in custody?
Hi,
I stopped by Newburg and Belgrade around 9:15. One of the cops said that they got both suspects. All the reporters went back to their studios to file their stories.
I live on the 'unfashionable' side of Washington St. There were helicopters all over the place earlier in the evening. Any one have any other updates?
P.S. - Newburg is a nice little street. Too bad there were some bad apples.

BPD confirmed arrest of the second guy.
Second suspect caught
Report on Facebook's The Chronicles Of West Roxbury group: Second suspect caught
First guy arrested is Luis Colon, 25, of Boston
Name appeared in the Herald. http://www.bostonherald.com/news/local_coverage/2016/10/cops_nab_two_aft...
So, the two suspects arrested are Luis Colon, 25, of Boston, then after the manhunt, Eric J. Rosado-Gonzalez, 25.
"Both Colon and Rosado-Gonzalez are expected to appear today in West Roxbury District Court to face charges of armed assault with intent to murder."
Necessary?
Was this level of lockdown, SWAT teams, choppers, and basically panicking an entire neighborhood for hours necessary to catch one person? Not condoning what he did at all but asking if the level of response was truly necessary. This guy should have the book thrown at him for what he did but is this Watertown-Marathon military-type lockdown the new normal to catch one guy, The police ended up catching him once they lifted the seige of Belgrade Ave anyway, he was down near Fallon Field.
Are you serious?
I have to believe that you are just trolling, but how would you have handled the situation?
An armed known criminal shoots at officers during broad daylight, in a crowded neighborhood, during an illegal gun sale. Then runs through adjacent yards, potentially endangering / threatening the lives of countless others (police and neighbors), and your criticism is that the response was too much? Wow
God forbid something worse happened - I bet you would be the first to lay criticism that the police were nowhere to be found.
Too many police, not enough police, damned if they do, damned it they don't.
I say great work BPD, not only are two criminals off the street, but illegal guns (which would more than likely be used to commit more crime/murders in our city) are also off the street.
Spin it and troll all you want - it was a good outcome.
No one said the outcome was
No one said the outcome was bad nor was I trolling. But it's not crazy to wonder if basically an entire military operation is necessary and worth it in a city neighborhood to catch one person. This was not a terrorist they were seeking. Children were terrified , seniors kept out of their houses for hours. Police also put out next to no information to residents as to what was happening, people came home to a de facto war zone. I'm not ripping the individual officers, I'm asking if this was all truly necessary as a command decision to find one person. If you say yes, then great, maybe you're right.
Does anyone know where they
Does anyone know where they found the second suspect?
South Street
Haven't heard where exactly, but I'd guess on the part past the Dunkin' Donuts.
