WBUR is out with results of a ballot-question poll that shows recreational marijuana and more space for chickens winning, expansion of charter schools and letting that one guy build a slots parlor in Revere losing.

Brexit passed because many opponents assumed it would fail and didn't need to vote. Additionally, some people who were opposed assumed it would go that way so they felt safe voting in favor to "send a message".
So it's important to vote even if you think your position is going to win.

Polling there is a bit tougher due to their political systems and that their politics is a lot less polarized.
For the most part polling in the US is down to a science. So much so campaigns commissions polls that say what they need them to say, as a way of hopefully influencing their opponents strategy or generating favoritible news cycles.
But that's where aggregation, and cross tabs come into play.

Seriously, if anyone ever has any question about slots parlors please visit Twin Rivers.
We stopped there as a joke a few years back and left with much sadness in our hearts.
It's a horrible, dirty, smelly, depressing cesspool of Hoverounds and live Beach Boys covers.
Then again, so is Revere.

How long ago was this visit? They have table games now, like a real casino. I've only been there once, but it was in the past year or so and it seemed like a decent place to be, if you can find entertainment in losing your money.

So once this passes, I would think the charter schools issue might be a moot point given all the young children dying from the legal pots they will be buying near their toy stores.
Now that this gateway is opened, I can't wait for heroin being on the ballot in 2020, and literal MURDER being on the ballot in 2024. Way to go libs.

Coke and heroin used to be purchased over the counter in the drugstore. Dueling used to be legal. You should be pining to bring all of that back if you are a conservative truly dedicated to making America great again.

Very obvious satire wasn't obvious enough. :(
I thought "pots" was a dead giveaway, as well as pumping the brakes on using the two syllable, people-with-disabilities mocking, term that neocons and Trumpetts use to describe liberals.

It's just so darn hard to tell these days! I could have gone the extra steps of reading past posts of yours to get a sense, so that's sorta my bad.
As over-the-top as you might have thought you were being, believe me-- actual Trumpkin conspiracy theory whackjobs on the internet say very, very similar things. Kinda scary.

The great casualty of 2016
By erik g

is the death of our ability to tell satire from reality. Trump can't be parodied. There's literally nothing you can say that's so over-the-top that you can't imagine the actual man saying it, and then denying that he said it the next day. It's starting to bleed over into other parts of life.
And without satire, what do we really have?

No one has ever died from a marijuana overdose.
Marijuana is much safer and much less addictive than alcohol, tobacco, and opiates (including legal prescription opiates, like oxycodone). It's not even close. Please do some research on your own if you doubt this.
That doesn't mean it's harmless to children: similar to other legal adult substances (e.g. alcohol and tobacco), there is an increased risk for children. That's why only adult use will be legalized by the ballot initiative.

Liquor lobby now behind anti legalization
By John
Wed, 10/19/2016 - 12:02pm
Need to keep the pressure up, the ballot to approve buying wine at grocery stores was ahead too and then failed with a disinformation campaign by the liquor lobby. The globe reports today that the liquor lobby is fighting this badly and just distress a bunch of cash to the anti legalization group, afraid of the conpetition. This seems to be a great admission that legalization may reduce addiction, but their deep pockets will be hard to fight. Vote for personal freedom. It will be close.

Legalize all drugs
By O-FISH-L
Wed, 10/19/2016 - 2:14pm
At this stage, I would recommend legalizing , taxing and controlling the ingredients of all drugs. The courts do little or nothing for possession and not much more for distributing. Obama just pardoned 61 dealers. Our drug officers do a great job but to look at the 20-30 year olds in the obituaries daily, the War on Drugs is lost. Along with other benefits, this would put some of the foreign cartels out of business and make the dealers find real work. Drug officers and agents could be assigned to more important duties.

Decriminalization, but not full legalization, of all drugs there. Since 2001, youth drug use is down, overdose deaths are down, and none of the predicted bad things have happened.
Mind. Blown.

This is the closest FISH and I have ever come to agreeing on anything. (I say decriminalize, not legalize since people should be discouraged from turning to drugs as an out to their problems, etc. and addiction is still an issue but this can be treated, not punished).
Quick, O-FISH-L, what's your take on whether burning babies is morally right or not? I need to keep this buzz going.

Kaz, I'm pro-life, so I'd be opposed to burning babies or vacuuming them out of the womb in the 9th month, ala Hillary's position. On the drug issue, legalize/decriminalize is the way to go since drugs have essentially been decriminalized, at least in the state courts, already. Control the ingredients and although I have little faith in the government, earmark the taxes for treatment.
