As today's king tide reached its peak around 1:20 p.m., this guy kept diving into the harbor from the end of Long Wharf.
He dove off one of the giant bollard things. He took a running leap into the water. He dove backwards.
He swam back to the wharf and, because the tide was so high, he could keep going and swim right onto the wharf.
Boats seemed a bit higher from the wharf today.
You don't usually see waves on Long Wharf:
A number of other people took off their shoes and, if they had pants on, rolled them up so they could take a walk in Boston Harbor. Nobody was swept out to sea.
Down at the mouth of Fort Point Channel, the path from the Barking Crab to the Children's Museum was blocked.

He was accompanied by his own camera crew (as opposed to the local-news crews that were down there).

What about the Blue Line

What about the Blue Line tunnel emergency exit? I'm surprised the water isn't running right in and keeping the pumps working extra hard
It's slightly higher

The Blue Line exit is placed a tier higher than the section of the Harborwalk that flooded, and is additionally raised a few stairs above that. Plus, given its location, I'm sure it has a few water-resistant features above and beyond normal exits - I'd be very interested if someone with more info on the design had specifics!

Discussion of specific vulnerabilities for Long Wharf and Aquarium areas - including the T stop and the emergency exit - starts on page 32.
Note the glass brick in the left (shorward) portion of the structure? That seals off the emergency exit.
Were you there at 1 pm? I was

I was aiming for 1:20, which was supposed to be the tide maximum, so 1 sounds right. Yeah, it was something!
Glad you got their early

Getting there right at high tide may have left you high and dry.
Plan to be stuck there for about 20 minutes after - difficult to find a way off.
No, wasn't difficult at all

At least not due to the tide (I was there until about 1:20). The only thing that made it very slightly tricky was that a good part of the infamous kiosk and the higher area was blocked off for the Doctors without Borders immigrants thing, so people had to tread carefully around each other since the steps are kind of narrow, as steps are wont to be.
There was flooding further up, by the Chart House, but that was easier to avoid via the "boardwalk" next to the boat slip.

I was maybe five feet away. Were you the one taking closeups of the water? :-). I was the guy in the shlubby blue sport jacket and faded red Sox cap just sitting there.
