WTF?
WTF is going on with this continuing "signal" problem? I no longer take the Red Line every day as I used to, but I still use it once or twice a week, and repeated daily problems are just not acceptable. What is the T or Baker or anyone doing to fix this? Or are they just hoping it will go away. I don't get it.
Rush Hour
Also, why are these problems ALWAYS during rush hour? I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but it's hard not to notice that these issues always occur during weekday rush hours and are magically fixed afterwards. Sure enough, at 9:45 am, the T tweeted that regular service had resumed.
Because that's when the most
Because that's when the most trains are running at the closest headways. The most stress is put on the system at rush hour, so that's when it's most likely to crap out. During midday, issues, if they do crop up, are not as likely to delay things because trains are a lot less frequent and a lot less crowded.
That's also when it's most likely to be noticed, as it's when most people are riding it.
The good old days
I remember a sign at the old Ashmont station that read 18 minutes to Park Street. Forty years later I consider it a good day if I can make it to Savin Hill station within twenty minutes.
The good old days, indeed
I remember that sign fondly, back when the Red Line was"Rapid Transit."
