This past summer, I saw a female wood duck with several ducklings in Leverett Pond, but I never managed to catch sight of a male. What a great photo! Glad to see they're still around.

Male wood ducks look very similar to the females during the summer. They get their bright plumage in late August, early September and look pretty awesome all winter and spring.

Whoever's detailing these wood ducks is doing one hell of a job. They will be valuable collector's items someday.

They are supposed to be very tasty, but you might not want to eat one that has been living in Leverett Pond.

There has to be a great mind behind such an intelligently designed creature. The colours are breathtaking!
