WBUR reports on a movement, sparked by Last Week Tonight writer and Pats fan Josh Gondelman, to find a group to donate to every time the Trump-friendly Patriots score tomorrow.

This site is getting way to politically-bias, I'm losing faith

How long have you been reading the site, exactly? I'm not doing anything I haven't before - although granted, the current conditions have a lot more newsworthy items of this type than we tended to see, oh, for the eight years preceding Jan. 20.

But you're in luck: At least I didn't post anything about Elizabeth Warren's speech today. Or doesn't like the travel ban.

"...Trump-friendly Patriots..."

Yes, EVERY SINGLE local tie-in to Trump MUST be reported!

Sheesh...keep on reaching like that, Adam, and you'll pull some muscles and be on the DL indefinitely!

/smh

Well to be fair, I've seen the Patriots described as "Trump's team" in plenty of other places over the past couple weeks. And I've even seen some attempts to frame the Super Bowl as Trump vs John Lewis. Here's one example from Sports Illustrated.. So this post is hardly a reach.

On the one hand, yep, our QB, coach and owner seem to have some sort of affinity for Trump, so guilty as charged. On the other hand, I find it highly unlikely that these three are the only white NFL affiliated guys supporting Trump. At least, that's the best I can do for a justification. Go Pats.

Sadly, all of the internet forums, especially social media, have become a political wasteland. Facebook started out to be a platform to tell your friends what you are doing, and where you are going, and to share personal events worth sharing, and now it has degraded into a very divisive system.

As it is, I have learned far too much about people I have called my friends for decades, as they air their political and moral outrage about current events.

I think the saddest revelation is the number of successful and intelligent people I know that are comfortable in embracing and perpetuating "alternative facts" regardless of what end do the political spectrum they come from, be it left or right.

I wish I had stock in Snopes. I'm guessing that if things continue the way they are that those people will be rich beyond the dreams of avarice in a very short time. The absolute insanity and outrageous stories that people quickly "share" is scary.

We all hear "Do your job" with the Patriots. Well we all need to check the facts before we start perpetuating all of these stupid stories. Let's not repeat Orsen Welles "War of the Worlds" in the online medium. If you are too young to understand that reference, look it up. It's an important metaphor. It caused nationwide panic.

Facebook never intended to be the Enquirer tabloid press. Yet, it has become just that. Before you accept that the Martians have landed... look up.

As to Twitter... who would have known that so much damage and divisiveness could result from 140 characters or less.

No, Facebook started out to be a platform to hook up with people in college.
Facebook never intended to be a place to share the size of your unborn child compared to a fruit or the map of the run you took that morning, but alas, things that people think are important will change over time.

LOLz

Facebook was originally only for college students. You act like it was some high class restaurant that has degraded when in reality it was a trashy college bar that let 40 year olds in out of desperation for more cash. Don't be shocked when it is a little grungy.

That's your problem right there.

This reminds me of that episode of West Wing when that Kingspeak guy tells C.J. that 600,000 people will pray for her.

Now, the righteousness is on the other side.

Who owns the site? The readers or Adam? That's the thing free press: The owners of the press can use it whatever way they want. Don't like it? Go elsewhere.

All media has biases. It's human nature. I do believe that I see Adam's bias. For example I believe that Adam does not think highly of people who are anti-Semitic and anti-Jewish. I think he might even have concerns about whether his family is told that prejudice and bigotry by people such as the President and his friends are good things.

I tend to agree with Adam's biases. I also see lots of non-biased news and reports. Universal Hub is a rolling book of beautiful pictures of Boston. News that tells me about significant local events is reported here while ignored in other media. I also get to read other folks' opinions for the love of Pete. This is of all things a place where ideas are actually debated (well, debated is a broad term for some of the comments).

The intellectual heroes of the Enlightenment would be proud of media such as Universal Hub. Gosh a person can even read opinions that are downright contradictory to other opinions offered in the same place. Amazing. Actual debate, participation in the marketplace of ideas. Amazing.

How about go out or stay home and enjoy the game. Screw politics, if only for a day.
Set up a coffee can and throw a buck into it whenever the Pats score. Then keep the money for yourself.
Spend it on beer or local ice cream. Yup, swirl does make a good point about local ice cream.
Some of them might be seasonal, though.

Enjoy the game.

That's a good idea. Spend the money on the local muslim restaurants that were listed in another post.

Do you mean Syrian-owned restaurants that were in the other thread?

I make the distinction because I have relatives by marriage who are Syrian, and they are Christian. One even owns a restaurant (out of state). They fled religious persecution decades ago.

And find a new hobby.

The sports team is a big business, not a community. You're being exploited.

Kick the addition.

A sport where millionaires give each other brain damage for the benefit of billionaires.

It's sad, because there is so much more to the sport. But if they don't fix that problem, it's not going to be around in 50 years.

I can remember a time when watching a sporting event was a source of distraction from everyday life and it's troubles.
Now even these things are infected with some kind of diatribe. I guess it's the world we live in.
GO PATS!

There was also a time when players, owners, and politicians made a point of not discussing one another apart for rooting for the home team.

The media is as much to blame in asking players their thoughts on things unrelated to the game, although Trump isn't helping things by constantly mentioning his connection to players and owners.

you're upset with who won the presidency and expect people to put their careers on the line for it

put your money where your mouth is and tell your employer you don't support the president and won't do anything that could be construed as such, also, do so publicly, and make sure everybody knows where you work.

if you're self employed, vet every person you do business with to make sure they also don't support the president.

its only fair

Listen to the tapes, a hundred times if you have to. You'll never hear the second g sound. Big-lee.... No guh. Nothing. Its not there. Scour you tube searching for any accent that leaves the g sound off when they say big league. Won't find it. He said bigly. It's ok it is totally a word. A tremendous word at that. It's just that there are a hundred better words to use in that context that won't make one sound like an idiot. It's just that, America elected an idiot. Sad.

Please Ms Sportsplayer or Mr. Entertainer don't have an opinion. Please do your job of selling some aspect of your person, whether talent or ability, to satisfy my need for diversion and entertainment. I don't care that you are a human being just like me with opinions, beliefs and feelings. All that I want you to do is be who and what I want you to be. See I am paying you. I and millions like me bought you for those few hours. You are our property for that moment. So do you your job and entertain us!

There should be a safe space viewing area setup somewhere, they could have coloring books and puppies.
If Tr**p is mentioned more than once the TV can be turned off and soothing music piped in until Nurse Ratched hands out the medication.

...if one can't keep their political thoughts to themselves for 3 and a half hours, then they're not really focused on the game. Besides, these are millionaires playing for billionaires. Who do you think they'd be supporting?

Most of the friends/family that I know who voted for Trump really hate Brady and Belichick. I'm the one who is all "but Brady is a decent guy" and "why do Americans hate excellence so much"?

Go figure.
